Explore the Book is not a commentary with verse-by-verse annotations. Neither is it just a series of analyses and outlines. Rather, it is a complete Bible survey course. No one can finish this series of studies and remain unchanged. The reader will receive lifelong benefit and be enriched by these practical and understandable studies. Exposition, commentary, and practical application of the meaning and message of the Bible will be found throughout this giant volume. Bible students without any background in Bible study will find this book of immense help as will those who have spent much time studying the Scriptures, including pastors and teachers. Explore the Book is the result and culmination of a lifetime of dedicated Bible study and exposition on the part of Dr. Baxter. It shows throughout a deep awareness and appreciation of the grand themes of the gospel, as found from the opening book of the Bible through Revelation.
AR Reid5 Stars Out Of 5Absolute Best survey of Bible booksApril 18, 2014AR ReidQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I purchased this book on the recommendation of a teacher. I still remember the day back in 1988, when I heard a Bible teacher comment on something he had read in Baxter's Explore the Book. What he said was absolutely mesmerizing. The next day I ordered it.
The day it arrived, I started reading it. I was impressed by its massive size, in fact, it was a bit intimidating to look at and hold. I opened it and began at the beginning with Baxter's section on Genesis and what I learned in the first twenty pages was worth the price of the book. What he said, and how he said it, was simple yet profound. And I've carried what I learned that first day with me for the past twenty-six years and have never doubted the truth of it.
Studying Baxter's book is probably at the top of the list of things that prompted me to go to seminary. And I've said to more than one Christian friend that, if I could own just one book beside the Bible it would be Explore the Book by J. Sidlow Baxter. If you're wondering whether or not you should drop the $60+ for a single volume, stop wondering and buy this book! I honestly believe you won't be disappointed. Find a quiet place to sit and read, and get ready to have your mind stimulated, your heart warmed, and your God exalted.

Eugene Thamer5 Stars Out Of 5March 31, 2009Eugene ThamerNine years after graduating from 5 years of Bible College, I was given Baxter's EXPLORE THE BOOK in one volume. For the last 36 years, including 28 years in full time pastoral ministry, this volume has become my most used and appreciated study help. One of it's great benefits is Baxter's ability to put a 'book' in context and perspective. It is clear and easy to read and understand. May it bring blessing to you and the people you serve as it has to me and mine, IN JESUS' NAME.
