Author Information

Darlene Deibler Rose was the first American woman to enter the Baliem Valley of New Guinea. During World War II, she and her husband Russell were sent to separate prison camps, where he died at Pare Pare. Darlene survived her time at a woman's camp at Kampili. After the war, she remarried and resumed missionary work in the Australian outback. She died on February 24, 2004, at her home in Tennessee.
