This trilogy is extraordinary! MaryLu Tyndall is an exceptional writer in every way: her settings are vivid and realistic, her characters are multifaceted and relatable, her plots are intricate and utterly intriguing, and her stories are historically accurate. This series is based on part of early American history that I had never heard about before. After the Civil War, many southerners moved to Brazil to build fresh, new colonies unmarred by the destruction of the war. These optimistic people left everything and everyonefull of dreams and hopes, yet completely unaware of what they would face. MaryLu describes what it was like for these pioneers: the wonders, perils, tragedies, triumphs, and inevitable transformation of everyone.

The series is about one group of (fictional) travelers, and each book focuses on certain specific people in the group--we get to know these people deeply and personally. We also watch as the entire colony evolves as they all go through many unexpected and life-altering circumstances. I had to *wait* for each book to come out--oh, so agonizing--so to have the entire trilogy together is a TREAT! I devoured each book as soon as it was released, and even though its been so long since I read them, they left a lasting impression on me. I still remember the characters and struggles they went through, even though I've read countless other books since then (Im a fiction editor). MaryLu is such a masterful, riveting writer! Her books are doubly powerful since they are based on historical facts (she tells us all of the facts she used in each book). These books are part of my permanent "save" collection--very few make this cut of distinction. I HIGHLY recommend this series!

I embarked on an exotic adventure with a group of Confederates who were emigrating to Brazil in the aftermath of the Civil War. We were off to build a paradise in the Brazilian jungle! I was totally drawn in from the first paragraph and through all 960 pages! It was so descriptive and so full of action. I don't know how MaryLu could put so much on each page! I loved joining the emigrants on the journey from ship to an exotic jungle. Every person had a past that they were wanting to escape and the New Hope paradise was going to be a new start. I was fascinated with how they were connected and didn't know that until well underway on the ship to New Hope! Some not until the end of the book! I loved this story.. Secrets, superstition, disaster after disaster, romance, love, faith and redemption, it covered it all!

I want to thank the author for gifting me a copy and MY opinion - I highly recommend Escape to Paradise! This book is at the top of my 'Best Book I've read in 2015' list!

I just finished reading this trilogy and it's true. Once you pick it up, it's quite hard to put it down. The story overall is wonderful and adventurous and full of so many emotions! I smiled, I awed, got upset, I shed a tear or two and most definitely laughed out loud.

You follow this small group of Southerners trying to pretty much run from their past (despite the actual defeat of civil war, there was some serious wars with in each character) in hopes of starting all over again so Brazil was just the place. The Paradise as they called it. Despite of what they think of how easy things would be, they forget that they must confront their fears and ask Jesus into their heart and ask God to help them improve their lives.

Though I enjoyed getting to know the characters, the intimate parts between them did make me squirm a bit. When I purchased the book I didn't realize it was a romance. Let's just say it was such a low priced I figured why not. I usually stay clear from romances for the same reason....too much detail that sort of ruins the story for me. To give you an example of their intimate moments of the married couples (I removed the names so I won't spoil it for anyone):

"The kiss was like none (******) had ever experienced. His body reacted. His mind spun with delight. He felt (*****'s) hunger, her affection in every touch of her lips across his. Pressing her close, he relished the way her curves molded against him." page 253

"She gave him an inviting smile that lured him to trail kisses up her neck, across her chin, until finally his mouth claimed hers. Every cell within her tingled as he laid her back on a bed of soft leaves and consumed her with his love" pg 801

I mean I get it, they are husband and wife but most of the authors detailing is just like that....it describes quite well how they are feeling and what the "gesture" they are doing. However, there absolutely no actually description of sex but you know pretty well what's going on. Pure romances like that are not for me to enjoy, so yes I did skip through some parts to avoid them because the author really did quite well adding mysteries that sucked you in and just wanted to know how and why it was happening and what they were going to do about it.

She entangled each of their personal stories so interestingly that I was quite surprised when it was finally revealed. When she described the moment of truth when they finally faced their fears and realized they couldn't do anything without Christ and that He always loved them and was waiting for them...well, it was truly wonderful!

Would I recommend this book? Yes and no. I guess it depends on who and to give them fair warning of the romance details within. If this was a movie and kept true to the details of each of the romances, I would seriously forward quite a few parts....just like I did reading the book.

This was a very good story, but I found the intimate scenes much overdone. One can suggest without describing in detail. Most people don't need the detail to figure out what is going on. For a so-called Christian book, I found that part rather disturbing. It would have been much better without those scenes. I would not recommend it because of this and I will not pass it on to friends either.
