Tell us a little about yourself. I came to Christ in 1975 from a strong Catholic
background. I'd never held a Bible before I was 20
years old. From the moment I was saved, I had this
irresistable urge to study and read the Bible. I bring that
to all my writing tasks.
What was your motivation behind this project? I've been involved in discipling believers since 1975. In
all those years, I've noticed two kinds of believers -- the
type A, read it all, study hard, memorize and attack type.
And the second type -- who aren't studiers, who don't
necessarily like to read, and who don't have strong
study skills. I know that there is great material around
for the first type. But there wasn't much for the second
type. I wanted something that would let people gain
strong roots in their faith, no matter what type of
learning style they have. I wanted something that could
be an altar give-away. Some product to bridge the
moments between coming to faith, and getting deeply
involved in the disciplines of the faith. The Guidebook
came from this desire.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope all new believers will fall in love with the Word of
God. They will learn how to do a quiet time. They will
develop the habit of reading the word and asking three
questions. What does it say, what does it mean, and
what does it mean to me? They will learn what it means
to pray scripture back to the Lord. And, most of all, they
will be inspired to keep on in the faith no matter what
comes next in their life. They will stay the journey and
grow in strength to serve and love the Lord.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? I am inspired by singer/songwriter Michael Card. I revel
in his precise use of concrete detail, and surprising use
of words. What a gift he has!
