Leslie Vernick has written an excellent book to help women see if they are in an emotionally destructive marriage. A quiz is given to help women determine exactly where their marriage stands. Tips are provided to help women to change in healthy ways, to gain the skills they need, and to stay safe. Each chapter offers a prayer and an action step for the women to take. Leslie has been counseling individuals, couples, and families for over 30 years, and this book truly shows women how to set boundaries and break free from emotionally destructive relationships. I recommend this book for anyone in an potentially unhealthy marriage or relationship.

I know too many Christian women who are living with a lot of abuse and have no where to turn. This book shows that there is someone who understands. Leslie shows women that are being treated wrongly by their husbands that there are answers and help. It's not just a book on sympathy, it's a book with real answers about how to change your situation. It is written with a Biblical perspective, which is so important for the Christian women.

I can't recommend this book highly enough... Leslie has hit the proverbial nail on the head with her advice and approach. This is a desperately needed book for women who have long been suffering in silence in their difficult and/or destructive marriages.

Too often the church does women a disservice with simplistic Pray and Stay counseling. I finally heard my own voice within the pages of this book. Thank you. I am empowered by knowing in fact my marriage is destructive and that abuse was never God's plan for me. I now have a plan, hope and, whatever happens, I will grow and heal.
