Terri Blackstock in her new book, "Distortion" Book Two in the Moonlighters Series published by Zondervan takes us into the life of Juliet Cole.

From the back cover: A husband's lies can have deadly consequences.

When Juliet Cole's husband of fifteen years is murdered before her eyes, she thinks it was a random shooting. Devastated and traumatized, she answers hours of questioning, then returns home to break the tragic news to her boys. But a threatening voicemail takes this from a random shooting to a planned, deliberate attack.

Juliet realizes that she and her children are in danger too, unless she meets the killers' demands. But as she and her sisters untangle the clues, her husband's dark secrets come to light. The more she learns, the more of her life is dismantled. Was her husband an innocent victim or a hardened criminal?

When someone speaks of distortion they are generally speaking about a sound or something visual that changes the what they are listening to or watching. Juliet has that problem after her husband dies. It seems his life is not what Juliet believed and he has lied multiple times to her. This not only puts her in an awkward position but puts her life and those of her children at risk. Now it is up to her and her Private Investigator sisters to find out why and who shot her husband because the police think she did it. Ms. Blackstock has provided us a first-rate mystery. "Distortion" is a thriller in that the lives of Juliet and her children are put in deadly danger through the course of their investigations. I think this is Ms. Blackstocks best work yet and her characters are well-defined. Once the action gets going Ms. Blackstock revs up the thriller quotient considerably which will have you reading and flipping pages as fast as you can. Don't start this book late at night because it will be very difficult to put it down or stop thinking about it. I recommend this book highly and am greatly looking forward to the next book in the series.

I have read a lot of Ms Blackstock's books, and again she leaves me wanting more. This one keeps you page turning right from the beginning to the end. Your heart in your throat!

Beginning with seeing your husband of 15 years murdered in front of you, a random act? We soon find a big tangled web. With two children to take care of Juliet Cole is in full Mom protective roll, and it is a good thing.

There is a lot of family trust and love here, we find them all rallying around Juliet. Of course Juliet and her sisters Cathy, and Holly are not only family, but trained Private Investigators.

There are so many surprises here, one after another, you will be shouting "No", and I did to no one!! How can such things happen, your world falls apart, and you never see it coming!

Through out the book we see God's hand there, and know that their faith is what they rely on. With so much danger, and greed. No value on human life, and even for small babies. UGH!!

If you love mystery and suspense, this book is for you, it is awesome!!

I received this book through Litfuse Publicity Book Tours, and was not required to give a positive review.

Terri Blackstock knows how to make me hold my breath! Even though this fast paced suspense novel kept me flipping pages, I found myself anxious to read even faster. What a good read! It kept my full attention, and I never suspected the ending.

I immediately connected with the character Juliet Cole. Poor woman; she witnesses her husband, Bob, murdered. She actually sees the killer! As the police investigate, her world continues to crash down around her as she copes with ever-growing ugly revelations about the husband she dearly loved and thought she knew. However, Juliet is a strong woman, and she dedicates herself to helping the police and the FBI solve this crime.

I especially enjoyed the part where Juliet wonders if Bob was a Christian. "Could he have been a Christian and still been involved in drug trafficking? Could he have truly loved God and still done something that would devastate so many lives?" (304)

    I highly recommend this one.

Juliet Cole has been a stay-at-home mom for several years now and has her routine and life down pat, so she thinks. When the unthinkable happens and her husband is murdered right before her eyes, her whole life comes under scrutiny. Was the last 15 years of her life, married to her husband, a lie? What was she supposed to tell her children? Who would want to kill her husband, a well-liked surgeon? As Juliet is subjected to questioning by the police, her sisters and Michael Hogan, her boss, begin their own investigation into the murder.

Julie begins to learn more and more unbelievable stuff about the man she thought she knew and had shared a life with over the last 15 years. She is sickened by what she discovers, but she is determined to discover who killed her husband as they now are threatening her two young sons. She will do whatever she has to do in order to keep them safe. She helps Michael investigate an old enemy who might be connected to whoever killed her husband. Can she and her sisters and Michael figure out who is behind this crime ring? Can they finally arrest and put out of commission Michael's brother's killer?

This is another thrilling, suspense-filled winner from Terri Blackstock! I began this book today and finished today; it was that good. The short chapters helped to keep the tension ratcheted up and kept the story moving at a quick pace. There is an interesting plot with some unexpected twists. Readers get to be reunited with characters from the first book in the series, Truth-Stained Lies. There are definitely struggles with faith as various characters are faced with deception, kidnapping, murder and much more. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I can easily recommend this great action book!

Juliet Cole has spent most of her adult life as a devoted wife to a successful doctor and mother of two sons, but her world changes forever when she witnesses the murder of her husband of fifteen years. As she deals with the trauma of the loss and tries to make sense of what she believed was a random shooting, she discovers a threatening voicemail message on her deceased husband's phone, hinting that his death was in fact a planned execution, and that she and her sons could now be in danger as well.

Juliet turns to her family to help find answers as she finds herself the focus of questioning from the FBI as the details of her husband's secret life in the drug world come to light and the devastation of betrayal consumes her. As if this isn't enough, she must also fight to protect her family from an enemy who will stop at nothing to retrieve the drugs and money they believe she has.

This is the second book in Blackstock's Moonlighters Series and for me, was even better than the first. One thing I like about this author is how she builds the suspense even when we know who the bad guys are, bringing it to an exciting end with an element of surprise.

This book is of the Christian Fiction/Suspense genre and I appreciate that the references to faith fit in naturally with the characters while not being preachy or compromising, and in a way that would also appeal to non-Christians who just want a great suspense storyline. Blackstock also isn't afraid to be realistic with the characters and storyline, and doesn't hold back on addressing real issues. Sometimes difficult people remain flawed, good people get hurt and even die, and justice isn't always realized, but in the end the one thing that remains true is faith in God despite the challenges, which is as it should be.

Fans of a good suspense mystery will enjoy this series in general and this book in particular.

I received a copy of this book for review from the BookLook Blogger review program but the opinion of it is my own and was not solicited, nor was a positive review required.
