"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." Ephesians 6:12

Annie finds out just how true this verse is in DEAD OF NIGHT. A serial killer is on the loose and several women have been found dead. It seems the killer is escalating. Annie is once again chosen to draw the dead women in order to identify them. The killer seems to be taunting Annie and the police. Annie is feeling the evil that this killer represents. Annie has never felt such an urge to pray nor such oppression from being attacked by the enemy. Not only is Annie having to help the police track down a killer, but her family is once again in crisis thanks to her son Stephen. How much is too much for one woman to handle?

Oh. My. Word! DEAD OF NIGHT was a true thriller a minute! The author truly captured the evil that the killer represented. You could practically feel the oppression of the enemy while reading. I loved how determined Annie was to not lose her faith and to not let the enemy win. It seems Annie is growing stronger. In this book she didn't seem as hysterical as in the first two books. There were still a couple of times that I wanted to shake her, especially where her son Stephen was concerned. It was frustrating how she wanted to constantly protect him even when he was in self-destruct mode. And her ex-husband? Ugh! What a total JERK! In the midst of all of the danger and all of the crises with Stephen, Annie and Dave start realizing they have feelings for each other...eep! Poor Chetterling! I was hoping it would be him! Sigh...DEAD OF NIGHT is not for the faint of heart. If you aren't a thriller fan it could be hard to read this one. If you are a thriller fan, then this one will surely keep you turning the pages and possibly even keep you up at night!

Annie Kingston is back in this third installment of the Hidden Faces series. This time she is tasked with drawing lifelike images of the murdered victims of a serial killer. She also is still dealing with her sons poor choices and behavior as he gets involved with drug dealers. Her sister has also moved in with her to help her babysit her son. She has a great deal of stress in her life and realizes the only way she can cope is with prayer. She has dedicated at least hour every day to reading her Bible and prayer so she can face the day and its challenges. She also begins to realize her next door neighbor, Dave, is interested in more the friendship. Is she ready for a relationship when her life has so much chaos? As the murders become more frequent, Annie learns she knows one of the victims. The killer is becoming more and more brazen. Who will be next? Can Annie do anything to stop this killer?

I couldnt put this book down. There was so much suspense, action and mystery in the plot I was hooked from the first page. Having read the first two books in the series, coming in contact with the same characters again was like meeting old friends. Annie is now such a strong woman of faith, so much more than she realizes. I loved the emphasis on the power of prayer, especially as a weapon against evil and in the maturation of the relationship between God and His children. I would recommend reading the first two books in the series before this one as they serve to introduce the characters in book one and then further develop them in book two. This was a great book!

The book was one of the most exciting I have read. I could not put it down, plus it was like a Bible study with the references that were used in the every day life of the characters.

Whoa. This book blew me away. It was so well written and chilling...I actually got really anxious for the characters and was reduced to trying to read-in the dark-in the car! The killer's real identity blew me away, too. But I think my favorite element was the power of prayer when demonic forces attack us. That is rarely written about in fiction novels, and it really served to open my eyes to the fact that our fight is not against flesh and blood...And it serves as a powerful reminder that 'justice delayed is not justice denied'. Our God will triumph!READ IT!!

I've also read the first two books in this series, but I'm going to review this one first. Why? Because it was one of the best suspense books I have read this year. I was seriously creeped out while reading this book. I won't lie though. The first two books in the series while very good just didn't keep me up late at night because I was afraid to sleep. But this book however, wow. I wanted to keep the lights on! What's interesting is that there is absolutely no hint of who the actual killer is throughout the whole book. While the killer does have scenes before they are finally revealed, there is no indication at all that points evidence towards them. When I found out who it was, I flipped back trying to figure out when this character first appears but it seemed like they had always been there in the background. Reading the killer's monologues in between characters was like listening to nails on a chalkboard. You get so uncomfortable and irritated and want to scream. The thinking is so twisted and evil that it's deliciously scary. The final battle between the killer and Annie was bite on your nails, cover your eyes, hide beneath the covers all out suspense. The only minor complaint I had was that the killer never says to Annie why they did what they did and that we don't find out what happens to them. But I'm actually rather glad this wasn't written. I hate "last chapter confessions" because it is so unreal that the killer wants to divulge everything before they get caught. Seriously, now I know why Brandilynn's tag line is "Don't Forget to Breathe." This book totally took my breath away.
