I just finished the book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Plenty of action, suspense, and excitement. Richard Mabry keeps you hanging through various twists and turns with several subplots going throughout. I can never take time to read straight through a book, but I struggled to find good stopping points when I was running out of reading time. I recommend Richard Mabry's books to anyone who enjoys medical drama.

I have read all of Richard Mabry's books, and this one did not disappoint! It was filled with drama, mystery, and suspense.

The prologue starts off with Dr. Shannon Frasier and her fiance, Todd, walking when Todd is shot. He dies in her arms, and she holds herself responsible, and vows to work hard to save people's lives.

Fast forward a few years, when she is having a dinner party, and there is a murder of a stranger on her lawn. He dies in her arms. Then the phone calls start, wanting to know what the dying man told her.

Her sister, who is a recovering alcoholic, asks to move in with her, and Shannon is always wondering if Megan is staying sober. Then, Shannon's dad is diagnosed with leukemia. She's not sure she can trust the police on the case. Who do you turn to in times like these?

I received this book for free from Blogging for Books for this review. The opinions are all my own. :)

Richard L. Mabry, M.D. in his new book "Critical Condition" published by Thomas Nelson takes us into the life of Dr. Shannon Frasier.

From the back cover: IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A QUIET DINNER PARTY WITH HER COLLEAGUES–

NOT THE SCENE OF A MURDER.

But the murder of a stranger on her front lawn is only the first in a string of events that have Dr. Shannon Frasier's life teetering on the edge of chaos. She's unable to make the deeper commitment her boyfriend deserves. Her sister shows up at her home needing a place to stay but with no promise she'll remain sober. And her father is diagnosed with cancer.

Then Shannon's life stops teetering and plunges into the abyss. Because the person behind the guttural voice on the phone wants to know what the stranger said before he died. And he won't stop until Shannon gives him the information he wants–even if she doesn't have it.

He's coming for her. She's not sure the police on the case can be trusted. And her only hope of escape–for herself and for those she loves–is to overcome her buried past.

I think "Critical Condition" is Dr. Mabry's best medical thriller to date. First off take a look at the cover—it looks like the medical tray for the doctor during an operation except for the gun and three bullets. The book has already grabbed your attention and you haven't even started reading yet! Emotional trauma is the hardest experience to heal from mostly because it was so painful in the first place that we do not want to revisit it to begin the healing process. That is where Shannon is at when a stranger is shot on her front lawn it triggers all the memories from her previous experience. Only this time the situation is even worse. On top of everything she is not sure whom she can trust. Action, mystery and suspense these are the ingredients of "Critical Condition". Without a doubt Dr. Mabry really knows how to write a thriller that will grab your attention and then keep it until he decides to let go. "Critical Condition" is a complicated mystery thriller as Shannon's life is in danger practically from page one. Turn off the TV, unplug the computer, put aside the housework you are not going to want to do anything but read this book until the end and enjoy yourself in the process. Dr. Mabry has written another exciting book that most certainly is a huge winner!

Dr. Mabry has once again written a novel that provides everything you could ask for in a great novel. He has provided us with meaningful characters, a believable storyline and a plot that flows like a smooth river. The descriptions of places and actions throughout the book always invoke clear vivid pictures of everything that is happening, adding to the realism and immersion of the storyline. The end is wrapped up tight, allowing you to heave a huge sigh of relief that all of the suspense and turmoil has finally come to a dramatic end. Of course, that's only until the next book come out.

Is this a "guy's book"? This book has all of the markings of a great "guy's book". The suspense and intrigue start small and continue to a full crescendo until you're almost breathing from all of the action. To me, there's nothing like a great action-packed "whodunit" to brighten your day.

Richard Mabry is my go-to author when I need a story about ordinary citizens caught up in a major mystery.

In the last year, I've had the pleasure of reviewing three of his books: Stress Test, Heart Failure, and now Critical Condition.

And I swear his mysteries get more perplexing with each novel- there were at least three major plot twists in Critical Condition that I never expected!

But I'm getting ahead of myself here.

Critical Condition is the story of a sister, and a reluctant sister's keeper.

Meagan Frasier really needs a "Bless This Mess" coffee mug. The youngest Frasier girl, she can be lovable and infuriating all at once.

She's beginning to realize that while her life is untidy and she's been derailed in the past, there is hope and a good future ahead of her. That's why I loved Meagan: she's the person inside all of us who knows that sometimes we cause trouble and sometimes we make a mess of things, but we want to keep trying.

Frankly, Dr. Shannon Frasier is tired of cleaning up behind Meagan. When they were young it was dishes and laundry, now it's prescription drug addiction rehab and loser boyfriends. Will Meagan never straighten up?!

At least Shannon tries to live up to role as grown-up Pastor's daughter. On the outside, her life looks fine. It's clean, productive, and respectable.

On the inside, she feels hollow.

When her fiancee died ten years before, the loss opened up a hole inside her and she's never fully healed.

And her current situation looks nothing like a prescription for healing: her sister is crashing at her house again, this year's wave of residents have just arrived at the hospital for training, and there's been a murder on her front lawn. Shannon is being pushed to the breaking point.

I loved this story, not just for the mystery (which sure was tricky and startling!) but for the tale of two sisters and restoration after loss.

Richard Mabry combines suspense with people-oriented plots, that show how men and women move closer to God in the middle of real life.

Get ready to join Shannon in sleuthing, sistering, spiritual renewal, and suspense.
