Once you turn the first page of this fast paced, riveting, book you are going to be hooked. It begins with Dr. Shannon Frasier and her young boyfriend. What happened that night haunts the career of this doctor for years to come?

Once we enter the story, we hear a noise in the dark, unsure of what is happening; we head to the kitchen, only to find a gun pointed at us. Yes this is actually a preview of what is about to happen throughout this story. There is a web of suspicion over everyone, and you find yourself wondering who are the bad guys here. Wow!!

Even being a Preacher's child doesn't always help you to make the right decisions, and we find that those little seeds planted young, seem to come back at the right time. God is with they always, not just when danger appears, and the people who are put on their path, are not there by chance.

We do find these characters interfering with the murder/robbery investigation and although I would probably make some of the same mistakes they did, they could have ended up in jail.

Come along for another of Dr. Mabry's reads, I know I wasn't disappointed, and felt that I had become a part of the Fraizer family. I also enjoyed that there was an epilogue at the end of the book. Don't miss this one, especially if you love mysteries!

I received this book through Litfuse Publicity Book Tours, and was not required to give a positive review.

"And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God."

    Zechariah 13:9 (KJV)

It's been said, "What doesn't kill you, will only make you stronger." Shannon Frasier is discovering the truth of those words first hand. As her fiancé lay dying in her arms, medical student Shannon Frasier received his dying words, "Help me!" as her life's mission. Blazing her own trail into the inner sanctum of medical surgery, Dr. Frasier has determined that never again would she allow Death to win a battle uncontested.

Years later, another gun-shot victim lay in her front lawn. Once again, Shannon's hands are covered in blood. Once again, Death had claimed another victory. But what happens in the ensuing weeks will make this event seem as peaceful as a Sunday morning.

For the man who lay dying on her lawn held a secret; a secret that he whispered with his last breath. A secret that will rock Shannon's world, which is already complicated enough. Struggling with the return of her sister, a recovering addict; her pastor father's recent sudden weight loss; and her seeming inability to commit to a long-term relationship with her "almost- fiancé," Shannon finally comes to the conclusion that she is the one who needs help. And there's only One Person who could possibly bring her through this crucible in one peace.

The twists and turns that author and retired physician Richard Mabry bring to this book will keep you turning the pages to the stunning conclusion.

5 stars for a fine combination of suspense, faith and romance

Anytime I get a chance to read one of Dr. Richard Mabry's books, I jump on it! I absolutely LOVE his medical thrillers and Critical Condition was EXCELLENT, as I knew it would be! I'm never able to solve the who-done-it in Dr. Mabry's books and I LOVE that! I've always loved the fact that his books, for me, are not the typical cookie cutter suspense novels. He writes good, clean, exciting novels that leave you anxiously awaiting the next one!

I loved Shannon and how she loved her family! She cared immensely for her sister, and being the oldest child, she took on a role that I could completely relate to. I just thought Mark was amazing and his patience with Shannon were obviously God-given :) But that is always how the Lord works! What we think is impossible, God makes a way and provides all you need to get through it, and that is evident in Dr. Mabry's books!

If you haven't read one of Dr. Mabry's books, you truly should! If you like suspense, medical thrillers, then Oh boy! you truly need to read his books!!

    Critical Condition is a 5 ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥'s review for sure!

Dr. Shannon Frasier was having a dinner party for a colleague when gun shots rang out. They discover a man has been shot on her lawn. She and her colleague try to help him but he soon dies. For Shannon, it is a repeat nightmare of when her fiancé was shot ten years ago. She couldn't save his life either. She has carried that burden all these years and is yet unable to commit to Mark, a man she dearly loves.

Shannon's life becomes more complicated when her sister calls in the middle of the night needing a place to stay. Is Megan on drugs again? When she turns to her pastor-father for help, she finds he has been diagnosed with leukemia.

He world becomes even more fragile as she begins to receive phone calls, a rough voice demanding to know what the man said before he died.

I really liked this medical suspense novel. The characters are well developed and believable. Shannon, already on the road to being a doctor when her fiancé was killed, commited her life to saving the lives of others. She is a good doctor but she has had a troubled relationship with God. And she wants to accept the marriage proposal Mark has offered but she is so afraid of the possible hurt she might experience again. Mark is a patient, a committed Christian, loving, and very supporting man. I just hoped as I read the novel that somehow they could work out their relationship.

There is plenty of action in this novel too. Shannon's life is in danger. Megan is in danger too. Her old boyfriend was found murdered and there is one policeman who determined to pin the murder on her. When we get near the end of the novel, the suspense really builds.

If you like medical novels with lots of suspense, you'll like this novel. I did.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book through Litfuse for the purpose of an independent and honest review.

"The valet parking attendant assisted Shannon Fraiser from the car, and she pulled her sweater tighter around her against the gusty autumn wind. "Todd, this place looks expensive."

Todd Richardson made his way around the car and took Shannon's hand. "Yes, but I hear the food's wonderful."

As they walked down the canopied sidewalk toward the leaded glass doors, Shannon said, "But if it's too expensive..."

Todd grinned at her. He shook his head and a few strands of dark hair dropped onto his forehead. "Don't worry. I can handle it." The grin became a smile, and Shannon's heart rate sped up, as it always did. "I just got a nice promotion, with a significant boost in salary. On the other hand, you're not going to be earning anything until you get out of medical school. You deserve something nice every once in a while.

"I'm proud of you for getting the promotion," Shannon said. "And the bigger salary would be nice if..." She let the words trail off. When Todd was ready to ask the question that was on both their minds, he would. Meanwhile, she'd just enjoy tonight.

Todd seemed to read her mind. "I know what you're thinking." Todd said. "We can talk about it -"

Shannon felt a tug on her arm a split second after she heard the gunshot. She felt, more than she saw, Todd crumple to the ground beside her. When she looked down, he lay on his side, eyes wide, a stunned expression on his face. His lips barely parted as he whispered, "Help me." (excerpt from Critical Condition)

In the latest medical suspense thriller, Critical Condition, by Richard L. Mabry, MD, Shannon Fraiser, is about to put it all on the line to salvage a career in medicine. When a man is subsequently shot on her front line much in the same way as Todd, she begins to wonder if there isn't a possible link in the two similar shootings. Just when she is on the border of dealing with this, her sister Megan calls looking for a last minute place to stay now that her boyfriend has been stealing her pharmaceutical drug samples and has left her without a job. The final straw comes in how well Shannon is able to deal with crisis is when her father is diagnosed with cancer and her boyfriend wants to understand why she can't commit to marriage. The story is about to get more interesting than she could ever begin to imagine and life may never be the same again.

I received Critical Condition by Richard L. Mabry compliments of Litfuse Publicity and Thomas Nelson Publishers for my honest review. I did not receive any monetary compensation for a favorable review and the opinions expressed here are strictly my own unless otherwise noted. I love every novel that Mr. Mabry has published because it utilizes his experience as a medical physician to keep the story captivating, on the edge of your seat and turning pages faster than you ever thought possible with just the right blend of suspense. Once again I believe he has hit a home room with this one and easily rates a 5 out of 5 in my book. This one even comes with a discussion guide at the end that is perfect for book clubs!
