You know that voice. That little voice inside your mind that says you're not good enough to do what needs to be done, that you don't have value, or a purpose. We don't want to listen to these thoughts, but sometimes we do, and they stunt our growth and potential for how God wants to use us in this world.
Author Steven Furtick struggles with these negative thoughts too, but in looking at God's Word he's found the strength to combat them with truth and turn off the "chatterbox" running in his mind. Through sharing personal stories, and practical strategies in Crash the Chatterbox, Furtick will show you how to silence the lies and hear God's voice of freedom and affirmation above all the others.

"I used to think that someone who struggled with the kinds of weaknesses I deal with daily was useless to God. I felt so often like I was drowning in internal dialogue I couldnt control. It had been the soundtrack of my life for as long as I could remember.
Yet everything changed when I began to realize God has given us the ability to choose the dialogue we believe and respond to. And once we learn how, we can switch from lies to truth as deliberately as we can choose the Beatles over Miley Cyrus on satellite radio.
This is the key to pressing ahead and doing Gods will anyway, even as you are bombarded with thoughts, feelings, and even facts about why you cant do it.
Im now awakening to the reality that we can access the power of Gods promises to constantly crash the system of our broken beliefs. Im learning how to overpower the shouts of the Enemy by bending my ear to the whisper of Gods supernatural truths about my identity in Him and His strength in me."

Crash!May 22, 2014JazzyPeaAge: 25-34Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 5As of this moment I have 71 Post-It tabs sticking out of the side of this book. Those tabs are my way of tagging what I call GoldenNuggets of information that give me pause, cause me to ponder, give me a lightbulb, or force a loud "Oh Em Gee YOU TOO?!" to slide out of my face.
Humorous one-liners to be sure, Steven Furtick is a master craftsman of the GoldenNugget. This book is Furtick's way of giving you the support, knowledge, and momentum you need to learn how to silence negative Enemy chatter, which he refers to as the Chatterbox, and draw in to God to hear His voice above all others.
My brain is my greatest asset and my greatest challenge. I have often battled with discernment as to who's voice I'm hearing, if I'm understanding correctly, and how to correctly identify the lies from the truth of who God says I am. This book is not a "read this and be cured", but it is definitely a useful weapon in the fight.
What I appreciate most about this book perhaps is Furtick's posture as a brother in Christ, fighting it out with the Chatterbox just like the rest of us.
"I'm learning how to overpower the shouts of the Enemy by bending my ear to the whisper of God's supernatural truths about my identity in Him and His strength in me."
Furtick's writing offers no delusion that this is somehow a skill we can learn one time and never encounter again. Explaining it as a lifetime battle that gets tougher as we climb higher, Furtick offers strategies for pushing through as we move through the levels of our faith.
I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book by the publisher in exchange for a review. I was not required to post a positive review.

Pastor Steven Furtick has written a few books now and this is definitely one I would recommend to anyone.
I believe every follower of Christ wants to believe God's truth and live God's truth but sometimes we have a hard time hearing God's truth. Every one of us has this voice inside our heads that like to talk us out of things and also make us doubt the truth of God's Word to us. Pastor Furtick gets really personal and transparent with his own struggles with the chatterbox in his life.
One thing that he talked about in here is "you either kick fear out of your heart or it will keep you out of the places God has prepared for you." WOW!!! Fear is something that we all deal with in life. This book has really challenged me to kick fear out and let God begin to speak the truths of His Word into my life so that I can get to those places he prepared for me.

I enjoy his style of writing because I find it easy to relate to many of the stories. He creates a visual that comes alive, and often triggers my own memories of similar situations. "Chatterbox" is a perfect description of that voice of negativity that seeks to block out all other voices...or amplifies the negative, both real and perceived, that you hear from others you encounter. A simple comment morphs into a criticism; at least that is what the 'chatterbox' wants you to believe. Pastor Steven says that the four key areas that can be so debilitation are Insecurity, Fear, Discouragement, and Condemnation. That voice has the power to make you lose the confidence to do what you were made to do, and more importantly, to prevent you from listening to the promises of God.
The book is divided into 4 sections: God Says I Am, God Says He Will, God Says He Has, and God Says I Can. In each, Furtick uses both personal anecdotes, passages from the Bible, and his insights. There is no simple solution to how to crash the chatterbox, but I would distrust him if he said there is. This is more of a reminder that we will struggle, sometimes the battle will be tougher than others, but that we can ignore the shouts of the deceiver and learn to listen to the quiet, soothing whispers of God. He promises to be with us in all things no matter how discouraged or afraid we may feel. God allows us to be part of His plan, but it is not as dependent upon us as we sometimes think. The book ends with a series of discussion questions that can be used for your personal study or as part of a small group.

toknowhim3 Stars Out Of 5March 23, 2014toknowhimQuality: 3Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4My latest book review is of Steven Furtick's "Crash the Chatterbox" (Hearing God's Voice Above All Others) . I received a complimentary copy from the Blogging for Books program, and I in turn agreed to write this review. I am a bit conflicted in writing this review as I have come across some information about Steven Furtick and some of the practices of his church that I do not agree with, but I have agreed to write this review so I will give it my best shot.
Steven Furtick is the founder and lead pastor of Elevation Church in North Carolina. In "Crash the Chatterbox" Furtick refers to the Chatterbox as the lies that are in your heart and head, those negative thoughts that do not stop running through your mind. In his book, he focuses on four main areas: insecurity, fear, condemnation, and discouragement. For combating the four areas, Furtick divides the book into four sections, "God says I am", "God says He will", "God says He has", and "God says I can".
I do like that Steven shares personal experiences from his own life, and he isn't afraid to admit his own struggles with sin. I always appreciate when authors share their own personal struggles with their readers. Overall, I did enjoy this book and found much of what Furtick wrote about helpful to me personally. At this point in my Christian walk, I look for an author to quote the Bible and God's Word for direction. Furtick did use Scripture, but also used quotes from random persons of the past, present and future. In and of itself that is not a bad thing, but as a Christian it is most important to base our decisions on what the Bible says, and not what others say.
I do think a person could read this book and gain some very helpful information that would help them combat the lies and negative talk that comes into their minds. Furtick does stress the importance of what God says and what Jesus did for us so we don't have to live with this constant stream of negative talk in our lives. Again, I am conflicted as I write this review because of some of the information I have read about Furtick recently. So, with that I will end this review and say as you read this book make sure that you always go to God's Word for the truth. We should always do that when we read any book written by any man or woman.
