It wasn't for nothing that Charles Spurgeon was called "the prince of preachers." In "We Shall See God" by Randy Alcorn, you can get a taste of Spurgeon's eloquence, and of Heaven's majesty.

"We Shall See God" is a collection of Spurgeon's sermons about Heaven. Randy Alcorn has done a masterful job of culling through the prince's sermons to pull out excerpts that talk about the beauty of Heaven and the horrors of Hell. Randy's comments following each passage from Spurgeon are wonderfully presented. He doesn't "talk over" Spurgeon, nor does he simply rehash what Spurgeon already said. He eloquently amplifies or briefly explains.

This book is designed to be used as a 50-day devotional reading. But I'll be honest with you: I couldn't put it down! I was so enthralled by Spurgeon's description of Heaven, that I couldn't wait to read more. And now I can't wait to tell others more about Heaven.

Lately there have been so many authors and blogger hypothesizing about Heaven and Hell and the after-life. But Spurgeon doesn't give us his opinion, he gives us biblical insight. And wouldn't you much rather hear what the Creator of Heaven has to say about it, than what any mere mortal has to say?

I highly recommend this book to you. You will not only look forward to Heaven even more, but you will enjoy your brief journey on this Earth even more too.

I find the book to be very inspirational. The depth in which Spurgeon takes us into the personality of God is amazing, especially since it was written over a hundred years ago. It gives me a greater understanding of the love my God has for me and all upon this earth, and a heightened desire to share my faith with others. Alcorn's commentary also adds to this appreciation and desire. It is on the Christmas list for many of my friends.

This book is a treat for me, indeed! Charles Spurgeon and Randy Alcorn are two of my favorite Christian authors. I believe most Christians don't think much about heaven until they're old, dying, or losing their loved ones. But the Bible says, "Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory." (Colossians 3:1-4) Heaven is our permanent home and we should be storing up our treasures in heaven, not on earth (Matthew 6:19-21). We Shall See God will help you set your hearts and minds on things above. Randy Alcorn selected, arranged, and edited 50 of Charles Spurgeon's Biblically insightful sermons preached on Heaven. At the end of each day/devotional section, Mr. Alcorn shares his comments. Although Charles Spurgeon suffered from chronic depression (most of his life), gout, arthritis, and liver disease, he faithfully served God and his Christ-exalting passion shone through and through. God gifted him much and he glorified God much. This is a wonderful book that helps readers ponder the hope of Heaven and shed their fear of death.

"Oh! Let us not live in this world as if we thought of staying here forever, but let us try to be like a pious Scotch minister who was very ill and, being asked by a friend whether he thought himself dying, answered, "Really, friend, I care not whether I am or not, for if I die, I shall be with God. And if I live, he will be with me." (p.54)

~ I received this book free from Tyndale House Publishers in exchange for my honest review.

This devotional book is a gem of encouragement. After listening to my son read selected chapters while we sat in Yosemite after a leisurely breakfast, I went home and ordered three copies. I knew that I needed to share it with two dear friends, one of whom had recently lost her grown son to a motorcycle accident. And the third copy? Mine, of course, to read and treasure.

What an insightful book as Alcorn combines his own expertise with the Prince of Preachers' on that mysterious subject of heaven. If you like Spurgeon and you want to know more about heaven this is a must read.
