I started this one slowly but as I went along it got better. I really got to liking the characters. It gives a lot of history of the Mackinac Island in the early 1800's. You get involved with the characters and you want things to come out well for them. A good book.

Captured by Love is a passionate love story by Angelique and Pierre. They are forced to deal with how to handle a strong physical attraction to each other when all circumstances dont seem optimistic for them to have a chance to spend a life together. Angelique is already promised to Pierres brother. And Pierre has a fur trading business that keeps him away from home much of the time.

Angelic lives on Mackinac Island which has been taken over by the British. With all the negative circumstances in her life, she should by all rights be angry, bitter and focused on self-preservation. And yet she is an incredible young lady. She returns hatred and prejudice with love. And she seems totally oblivious to the unfairness of how she is treated. She remains focused not on herself but rather on taking care of Pierres mother during the years when he is away from home.

Pierre returns to the island and finds out that Angelic has transformed from the child friend he remembers to this beautiful young lady. But he also finds the family home in disarray and his mother living in really bad circumstances. Now he must decide which is more important, the fur trading he loves or staying around to care for his mother. And how will he deal with his love for his brothers intended?

Captured by Love is filled with a lot of historical facts that are quite interesting . However, I would say the romance plot of the story is much stronger than the historical aspect. So Captured by Love would be a better attraction to those who seek out a good romance or historical romance genre. Some of the moral dilemmas in this story had me a little tense. But Jody Hedlund has a great writing style and for those who seek a good romance, Captured by Love might have a great appeal. Just following the storyline of Angelic was inspirational.

The British Army has taken control of Michillimackinac Island, forcing the people that live there to swear an oath of loyalty if they choose to remain. Pierre Durant a fur trader returns after being away from the island for years. He finds his mother frail. His childhood friend Angelique MacKenzie has grown into a beautiful young woman. Pierre and Angelique fall in love, but she is to marry his brother who is away at war. How much will they risk? It took me awhile to get into this book, it just seemed to be going nowhere for awhile. I rate it a 6 out of 10.

Characters weren't too likable, made it hard to root for them

Eighteen-year old Angelique MacKenzie is an orphan who is in the care of her cruel stepfather, Ebenezer. There is a shortage of food on the island, and Angelique has spent the winter trying to smuggle food to her friend, Miriam. Miriam has always been like a mother to Angelique, and now that she is frail and blind, she needs help in order to survive. Angelique is betrothed to Miriam's son Jean, who is away fighting for the Americans. Miriam's other son, Pierre, is a fur trader who left the island 5 years prior after an argument with his family.

Angelique and Pierre had been close as children, but Pierre always saw her as a younger sister. When he returns to the island, he is surprised to see that Angelique has grown into a beautiful young woman, and he realizes he has feelings for her. Angelique, however, is still betrothed to Jean, though only for stability, and not because she loves him deeply.

Pierre has abandoned his cavorting ways, and is now determined to live honestly and in God's truth, but he struggles with knowing the "right" thing to do. Angelique is in a bind, because she loves Pierre, but doesn't think it's right to break Jean's heart. All the while, the British presence on the island is driving the residents to starvation. Angelique and Pierre spend the book trying to figure out exactly what it means to "do the right thing", and learn to forgive themselves for their respective pasts.

I did like the story, although I found it to be a little over-the-top in mushiness (I guess I'm not a hopeless romantic!), but it was an easy read that kept me occupied on the plane. However, I had a hard time getting into it because I didn't find the characters to be very likable. They kept changing their minds and being very indecisive, which left me confused as a reader. This also prevented solid character development. Finally, the ending wasn't as satisfying as it would have been had I been rooting for the characters to succeed throughout the entire book.

Captured by kisses, is what the title of this book should have been. Although the story of the book was interesting, I found myself dissapointed by too much details of the physical attraction between the charachers, and way too much kissing in this book.

It seemed like Pierre and Angelique only liked one another for their physical apperances. There are numerous times when one thought of anothers body, curves, muscles. Too much was put in stock in the physical in this book and it practically replaced a great story line.

I would not recommend this book to any girl under 18 years old. It's gives a false message of what true love is. Most Christian fiction authors write books from "love from the first sight" prespective. That needs to be changed. Love doesn't grow on physcial appereance alone.

I was so frustrated and anoyed to find so much kissing in this story that I can't write about anything else.

When I think over this book this is all I remember:, "kissing" and "desiring". Christian romances shouldn't be read like worldy romances. Just because you throw God here and there, it doesn't make it a Christian read.
