Jody Hedlund has a gift for telling a story while grabbing your heartstrings and pulling you along the adventurous yet dangerous journey. This is set on and around the beautiful, history rich Island of Mackinac when it was in British hands. Tensions are high and both Pierre and Angelique must figure out how to survive and still be loyal to America. Pierre arrives back on the island to discover that Angelique is not the little sister-like girl he left behind. Sparks fly while danger surrounds them!
The characters are strong and speak to your heart. Jody writes in a very flowing, yet action packed and moving way that you can't put the book down for fear you will miss something. I loved getting sucked into this awesome story. Highly recommend!! -

BitsymcRed Lion, PAAge: 55-65Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5History mixed with romance!June 27, 2014BitsymcRed Lion, PAAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Michigan Territory, 1814, is the setting for Jody Hedlund's new novel, Captured by Love. The British Army has taken control of Michilimackinac Island and its fort, forcing the Americans to swear an oath of loyalty to the crown in order to retain their land. Pierre Durant, a fur trader, returns to find the family farm a shambles and his mom starving and at the mercy of the British invaders. Angelique MacKenzie, a childhood friend, has taken care of his mom through the winter, although she herself is trapped by the circumstances of war and poverty and the cruelty of her guardian and step-father, Ebenezer Whiley, all while waiting for her fiancée, Jean, Pierre's brother, to return from the war effort. Jody Hedlund does a masterful job of weaving the story to include the tension and violence of the British occupation of the island and the sparks flying between Pierre and Angelique. Even though she is engaged to be married to Jean, is it love or an escape? Has Pierre burnt the candle at both ends only to wind up losing his life? Forgiveness and a belief in One who is there for us no matter where we are resonates clearly in this story. The historical research was well done and as with all Jody Hedlund books, I recommend Captured by Love as a must-read!

Novel by Jody Hedlund-book #3 "Captured by Love"-series Michigan Brides
This story was written about Michilimackinac Island, sometimes referred to as Macanaw. 1814...
I visited this island not long ago and so while reading this story of Pierre and Angelique..I could see them running through the wooded areas and imagine the fort that I saw.. looking like Jody wrote.
Childhood friends,Angel has always looked up to Pierre and followed he and his brother Jean all over the island. Now all grown up the two have much to contend with. Pierre was a fur trader and gone for long periods of time and Angel accepted Jeans proposal of marriage just before he left for the war that was going on between the British and Americans. Angel knew she never wanted to live anywhere but this wonderful island.
We will see Love and War intermingled in this story and Jody does it well. Hunger as the war rages and supplies are low too.
As Tensions mount and violence surrounds them, Pierre and Angelique must decide where their loyalties rest and how much they'll risk for love. She is loyal to Jean and keeps telling Pierre she cannot accept his love although she aches with how she feels when he is near.
Thank You Jody for another wonderful story part fiction&part facts..I love to read your books and see the vivid characters you bring to life..along with your research of the setting of the story and how well we can feel we are there and sometimes if we are lucky we will have been already... -
Kalan O.5 Stars Out Of 5Excellent!!January 6, 2018Kalan O.Quality: 0Value: 0Meets Expectations: 0Okay! First off, I must admit... I have been to Michigan's Mackinac Island so this story was already close to my heart before I began reading it!
The setting is absolutely wonderful and was brought to life by a very talented Author.
Pierre and Angelique, childhood bestfriends, were two very well thought out characters. Pierre's stubborn, slight boastfulness was a very smart twist from the usual hero's and his personal/spiritual journey truly made him endearing.
Angelique's quiet strength and stern resolve to be different from her mother will really pull you in and make you connect with her as a character as well. I ached for her.
The plot was... phew! Let's just say, these characters sure had it rough! But it kept you wanting to read more and that's what every reader wants... right?
Filled with love, faith, and historically accurate details, this was a wonderful story!
One you definitely should read for yourself!
