I first saw this bible when visiting a friend and knew I was going to purchase one for myself. The layout of the bible is very pleasing. I had read a number of reviews before purchasing and found those who thought it a bit hard to follow and those who simply loved it. I had the opportunity to go through it first hand, so my decision was an easy one. I find it easy to follow the scripture flow. The size of the book, the fonts, etc., the coloring...all lovely.

I showed it to a friend of mine who immediately purchased 2. That speaks volumes. I would not hesitate for a moment to recommend this to anyone thinking of purchasing a new or another bible for themselves and/or a friend. The cost to purchase this was very low and the value very high.

I see other reviews saying that this Bible wouldn't last and to that I say it comes with a lifetime guarantee that it will last and considering the publisher has been in business since 1798 I think it is fair to think that they will be in business long enough to follow through with this guarantee.

This Bible has a very soft leather and a place in the back for notes. It has the gold edged pages and is a good size.

My favorite part is that the pages are slightly thicker than the Bibles that I already own because this makes it feel less fragile and also allows for note taking and marking/highlighting with the Gel highlighters without being able to see through or damaging other pages.

It is not tabbed but you can either book mark these pages with post-it notes or you can purchase for very cheap the Bible tabs available here at Christianbook.com

This Bible comes in an awesome box that can be easily wrapped for gift giving.

I actually bought the first one of these accidentally!! I meant to get the devotional. When it came and I looked through it, I kept it and ordered the devotional also. I have ended up ordering 5 more of the Jesus Calling Devotional Bible's for friends that have seen mine and loved it too!! One of the friends I gave one to had to find out where I got it so she could get one for her husband!! They are a great value and a great bible plus you get the extra devotional and inspirations throughout the bible!!

    Jesus Calling Devotional Bible

I once shared the devotional "Our Daily Bread", produced by "Radio Bible Class" of Grand Rapids MI in the 1950's with my mom, dad, and sister on a daily basis. I grew up, strayed from the Lord and my daily devotional time. Eventually, absence from the Lord led me into alcoholism. I am a recovering alcoholic of two and a half years. Back in a Spirit filled church, this devotional was recommended to me. I love it! How sweet to spend time with Jesus, to grow in areas of spiritual weakness which renews my faith. I love how the various topics are spread through out the Bible, yet they are not just 'handy'. The references Sarah cites are found through out the Bible as she develops relevant topics and gives scripture to explain and back up what she says. The reader has to look them up. Good for returning believers.

    I love this on Trust:

Trusting me is a moment-by-moment choice. My people have not always understood this truth. After I performed miracles in the wilderness, My chosen children trusted Me intensely- but only temporarily. Soon the grumbling began again, testing My patience to the utmost.

Isn't it often the same way with you? You trust Me when things go well, when you see Me working on your behalf. This type of trust flows readily within you, requiring no exertion of your will. When things go wrong, your trust-flow slows down and solidifies. You are forced to choose between trusting Me intentionally or rebelling; resenting My ways with you. This choice constitutes a fork in the road. Stay on the path of life with Me, enjoying My Presence. Choose to trust Me in all circumstances. Exodus 1 5:22-25 Psalm 31:14 Sarah Young is surely the Lord's servant.

    First, the physical properties:

A good quality bible, with decent pages and a very pretty cover.

The edges are gold and my embossed name is also gold. The bible comes with a sturdy ribbon marker as well.

I really enjoy the size of the bible, it is a good medium size and width, enough to spread out on your lap but still easy to haul around.

Best of all, the size of the type (words) is fantastic!! For once, a smaller portable bible with good sized font.

I think that the layout of the notes is quite nice. Instead of tiny footnotes or overly jazzy pages of notes, the way that this bible has been put together is calm, mellow. Perfect for the kind of devotion that you will persue with "Jesus Calling." There are no goofy graphics, just straight forward notes that keep you focused.

I also like the fact that this bible is the NKJV. It is good to see so many more NKJV bibles coming out now.

And now about my opinions regarding the contents of this devotional bible:

I purchased this bible as a companion to the Jesus Calling "364 Day Devotional". I find that this bible compliments the devotional perfectly: I can look up the daily bible verses and I find more in-depth notes near those verses in the bible. They seem to correspond well.

I'm not sure about this lady, Sarah Young, hearing from God. I'm not going to worry about that. When I read her notes I find them to be straight forward and very thought provoking. So far I've not read anything that sends up alarm bells.

Reading the devotions that are written as if Jesus is talking to me can be a bit odd. But I find that this style is actually quite helpful with organizing my thoughts so that I am "listening" more then just reading and thinking. So many times I read devotions and I feel like they are outside of me, and I am a witness on the side lines? So I might even begin to "zone out" and lose the thread? But with this style of "Jesus talking to me" I find that I tune in a lot better and I really do gain a lot from each reading.

The notes in this bible are easy to comprehend, they are clear and straight forward, as I mentioned above. Also I enjoy reading devotions that are not so heavily centered around various women telling me their personal stories. I don't know, I think I just get bored with that after a while. This style is a lot more "private" and "personal" and a lot less "chit chat" and displaced - in other words, me sitting on the side lines while someone else talks about themsevles... not that you can't learn from those kinds of devotions! I just find that the "Jesus Calling" style pulls me in so much more deeply then any other devotion that I have tried to use but ultimately drifted away from.
