To Pastor Ezekiel Freeman, Abra will always be the little girl who stole his heart the night he found her, a wailing newborn abandoned under a bridge on the outskirts of Haven. Zeke and his son, JoshuaAbras closest friendwatch her grow into an exotic beauty. But Zeke knows the circumstances surrounding her birth etched scars deep in her heart, scars that leave her vulnerable to a fast-talking bad boy who proclaims his love and lures her to Tinseltown. Hollywood feels like a million miles from Haven, and naive Abra quickly learns whats expected of an ambitious girl with stars in her eyes. But fame comes at an awful price. She has burned every bridge to get exactly what she thought she wanted. Now, all she wants is a way back home.
In this riveting and highly anticipated tale of temptation, grace, and unconditional love, New York Times best-selling author Francine Rivers delivers big-canvas storytelling at its very best.

A large part of the book takes place in Hollywood which is not my favorite setting but it was interesting. The last third of the book was definitely the best part. Francine Rivers never fails to bring her characters to life and make you feel their emotions. The ending did contain an element of surprise for me. Francine Rivers has written another poignant story of God's unconditional love and forgiveness.

Most of Francine Riverss books focus on the same themes of forgiveness, love, and redemption, and these themes are woven seamlessly throughout the novel. She is so talented at working the gospel and God into the story and into the characters lives without it coming across as pushy or unrealistic.
I also really enjoyed the secondary characters in this novel. The residents of Haven were real and made the small town come alive. I especially liked Mitzi, Abras friend who encouraged her to play the piano. As a girl who grew up playing hymns almost from day one of piano lessons, I absolutely loved that part of the story. I so appreciated and identified with how those old hymns would just pop into Abras mind when times were hard to give her comfort and peace.
The overall plot in this book is not necessarily surprising. You can see where it is going the whole time, but with these sweeping saga-type novels, the story is really in the journey. I did think this one got to be a little long, especially towards the end.
The romance in this book is part of the story, but it is definitely not the main plot. Abras story of grace and redemption is the main focus. Its kind of refreshing to read a Christian fiction book every once in a while that isnt so wrapped up in the romantic plot. That being said, the romance in this story was not quite as good as I had hoped.
I also feel I should warn readers that this is not a light Christian story. It is real and brutally honest in its portrayal of war, sexuality, and abusive relationships.
Even though there were things about this novel that I had trouble with, the story as a whole was completely engrossing. It was pretty much what I expected from Francine Rivers.

Pastor Zeke is on his morning walk when he feel a strong pull to go to the bridge where he finds a new born baby girl. He, his wife and son take the baby girl Abra in for 5 years as a foster child. At this time their life is changed and Abra is adopted by a couple with a young daughter who is Abra's friend. Dispite the adults thinking this is best for Abra, it isn't. She feels like no one loves her.
As a seventeen year old, she takes off one night with a young man, Dylan Stark, and goes with him to Hollywood. He uses her until he is tired of her. At one of Dylan's mother's parties she is introduced to Franklin Moss. She leaves with him and he turns her into a movie star, changes her name, controls what she eats, wears, and who she is around. One day while he is gone she leaves and end up being a waitress where she runs into her foster brother, Joshua, who convinces her to go home to Haven with him.
In Haven she find forgiveness from those she ranaway from.
I have enjoys Francine River's books, until this one. I felt the story had to much sexual undertones. Many events are mentioned but are not realistic. Law enforcement is not called in to help find Abra when she runs away, or when close to $8000 is stolen from her years later. The books continually has christian references and spricture, but no one talks to Abra as a child to see what is bothering her or try to help her like a christian normally would.

It really brought home how much God loves us, watches over us and brings us back to Him. It also shows the power of prayer warriors.
