As a fan of Elizabeth George and having recently reviewed her upcoming release, "A Girl's Guide to Making Really Good Choices," I decided to check out her husband Jim George's upcoming release, "A Boy's Guide to Making Really Good Choices.

I'm a bit disappointed to find that it's basically the same material as Elizabeth's book with one added chapter about obedience. However, the material is biblically based and well thought out—still a good resource for discipling your 8- to 12-year-old boy.

In his book, Jim George helps boys discover what God's Word says about making choices. The book follows the story of a boy, Justin Smith, and some of the decisions he makes. George makes the point early on that choices are a heart issue and that having a plan helps you make good choices when the time comes.

What makes this book stand out is that it's not just a book, but it's more of an interactive Bible study, steeped with Scripture, with questions to answer at the end of each chapter. The questions help boys process what they learned and identify ways put what they learned to work as they make daily choices.

Another great feature is the acrostics George uses in each chapter to help boys remember the main points. For example, in the chapter on choosing to read the Bible, the acrostic for BIBLE is:

    B — Bible reading is a must.

I — Important answers come from the Bible.

B — Bible truths give you direction.

L — Life changes come from the Bible.

E — Eternal life is found in the Bible.

Chapters in "A Boy's Guide to Making Really Good Choices" include:

choosing to obey; choosing to pray; choosing to read your Bible, choosing to get up; choosing your friends, choosing what you say; choosing to be patient; choosing a happy heart; and choosing to trust God.

All in all, this is a great resource for young boys to grow in their faith and learn to make really good choices. It would be great for a dad to work through with his son, or for a small group of boys and their Bible study leader to work through together. It's probably one I'll be buying for my son once he reaches the target age group.

Note: I received a copy of the book from the publisher for this review. However, the opinions expressed are my own.

i started reading this book to my twelve year old because he was starting to make some poor choices at school. I was amazed at how closely the book related to him and his choices. he was being a pouty sarcastic little boy until I started reading and it was as if the book was directly talking to him. He perked right up and grinned from ear to ear at the comparisons. he has been starting to make better choices. i bought this book along with a leather WWJD bracelet and Im very pleased with it.

So glad I bought this book for my 9 year old. He sometimes doesn't make the best choices or doesn't react the way he should in situations. We are doing this together one chapter at a time and he seems to be getting a lot out of it. Hopefully when we are done we see some positive changes.

I help lead a small group of 7th grade boys, and we have used the book each week for a short lesson. We let the boys take turns leading the group in discussion of a lesson, and it has been a powerful thing to see. It helps get the boys involved, and invested in the lessons. I highly recommend the book. God bless.

This is an excellent resource for a young boy. I gave this book 5/5 stars. I think it would be great to use as a devotional with a 6-10 year old. Having a parent read it with him would be even better. There is simple advice following some scenarios that will have the young boy thinking about his options. I liked that it was easy to read and also was entertaining enough to keep his interest. I would recommend this book to any parent of a young Christian boy who needs some simple guidance in his life.

I would like to thank the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.
