It was great getting back to Kate Adams and Tom Parker. I loved getting to know them in the first book in this series. Their story continues in this book. This is a series that you HAVE to read in order for it to make sense.

Many of the secondary characters that are also introduced in book 1 reappear in this book. There are a few new characters that we meet in this novel though. I really enjoy the details that Sandra Orchard gives about her characters. It is very easy to think of them as flesh-and-blood people rather than fictional characters. There are a variety of personalities and quirks included in the cast of this book.

As this story progresses there are glances back to the first book and the danger that Kate was in during that story. The question comes up briefly as to whether this new mystery and danger are actually connected to that story or just a coincidence. At the same time there were some questions that came up during the first novel, but not resolved, that resurface and more information about them is revealed.

It is a wonderfully well written story and drew me in so thoroughly that I finished it in 2 days. I am looking forward to reading book 3 and finding out how everything is resolved. Hopefully Kate and Tom will get their happily-ever-after.

In her second book in the Port Aster Secrets series, author Sandra Orchard picks up the story of Kate Adams and Tom Parker as GPC Pharmaceuticals continues its efforts to set up operations in Port Aster and crime seems to be on the rise. The story takes numerous twists and turns as the suspense intensifies. At one point Tom tells Kate she is too trusting. Its quite interesting that she says she trusts everyone except police officers but she is constantly jumping to confusions about the various other characters in the story. If not for God and a certain police officer, I dont know how she can survive. She has quite an imagination and can quickly see clues that make the next person appear guilty. I enjoyed the action and suspense. But I shook my head more than once when Tom told Kate to stay in a particular spot and almost immediately she was right on his heels or she was charging off somewhere else to try to get ahead of the bad guys. I think I would have had to lock her up somewhere for both her safety and my own. How is a police detective supposed to work with the distraction of a beautiful woman like her? That doesnt even take into account the fact she is frequently getting into jams because of her impetuousness. Theres a touch of romance in the book but also a lot of action. I recommend the book.

    A contemporary Mystery/Suspense Novel

This is a whopper of a mystery and suspense from Sandra Orchard, and yes, it had my heart thumping and my adrenaline soaring. This is what I would call a true series, where the mystery is not completely solved in this book, but there are enough answers to the questions posed, that I would still buy it and even read it before the next one comes out. So far, Sandra has always finished a series. (I say this because there is at least one author who does not). This is the second one in the series, following Deadly Devotion. As always Sandra delivers. I love Sandra's mystery novels, and often read them multiple times...once when they are first published, and then again as the series is completed. The twists and turns the story takes keeps the reader involved, and guessing and often wrong in their guesses. She has a way with words that effortlessly draws the reader into the setting.

I received this book free from Revell and Emily Davies-Robinson through their Nuts About Books program in exchange for an honest review. A positive critique was not required. The opinions are my own

Kate Adams once again finds herself smack dab in an investigation - this time for counterfeiting. She's determined to make sure her elderly neighbor isn't charged and will do whatever it takes to help Detective Tom Parker find the real culprit.

Tom Parker is struggling to remain impartial in his examination of the evidence when he is having trouble denying his growing attraction for his prime suspect. When continual threats crop up concerning Kate, he's determined to do whatever he can to protect her even if it means earning her ire in the process.

This continuing saga between Kate and Tom, set in Port Aster, is a fun and exciting read from Sandra Orchard. I eagerly look forward to the final book to this adventure when hopefully the duo will overcome their differences and come together. You won't be disappointed by this second book in the series.

This book was provided free for review by the author and Revell - 2014.

    Blind Trust

    Sandra Orchard

Book Summary: Kate Adams had no idea she was carrying counterfeit money, and she can't believe that it came from her sweet neighbor. Or that it lands her in the middle of another one of Detective Tom Parker's investigations. Determined to prove her neighbor's innocence, Kate stumbles into a pit of intrigue that is far deeper than a two-bit counterfeit operation--and strikes too close to home for comfort. As family secrets come to light, her world--and her budding romance with Tom--begin to crumble. To Kate, it's clear that she won't be safe until she uncovers all of Port Aster's secrets. But is it too late for her and Tom?

Review: Very suspenseful and well written. Even though this was a sequel to Deadly Devotion it was still readable as a stand alone. There was some spoilers throughout the book, but not enough to keep me from reading the first in the series someday. I found the storyline to be interesting. There was a lot going on throughout the story but I never felt like things were so scattered that they couldn't be resolve in the last 30 minutes of reading the book. It is nice to see the immediate things resolved. There were times that I was on the edge of my seat and a bit jumpy due to the events occurring in the book. I love the thrill of the suspense and the characters were original and likable. The secondary characters and some surprises kept me going to the end. I am looking forward to the next book in the Port Aster Secrets series.

I would like to thank Net Galley and Revell for allowing me to read and review this book in return for a free copy and I was never asked to write a favorable review by anyone.
