Absolutely purchase a set of The Bible Knowledge Commentary OT & NT regardless of your theological persuasion. Why? Because it was produced by men who were passionately driven to master the content of Scripture and pass that on for students of Scripture. Most, if not all contributors come from the golden age of Dallas Theological Seminary, men who were committed to the consistently literal hermeneutic of Bible interpretation, men who avoided the temptation to speculate on the meaning of a passage or to spiritualize obvious literal statements. You will find within faithful interpretive results generated by men committed to the inerrancy of Scripture.

The Bible institute I graduated from routinely assigned reading from this commentary set. If I had to pare down my reference library to one or two bookcases, this 2-volume set would anchor what precious few commentaries I would keep. If this set were the only commentaries you could afford to buy for a year or two, you would be at no great loss until your next great purchase, 'Bible Believer's Commentary' by William MacDonald. The latter is the best single volume Bible commentary I've read produced by a single author; incredibly thoughtful at times.

May God bless your study of His Word.

After consulting many pastors including our own, and reviewing the many suggested books by stopping by the Trinity library, THIS struck me as a tool we need in our walk! My wife and I have been reading the Bible a chapter a night for just over a year now and this latest addition to our nightly reading has really allowed the Word to come alive! To really understand what one is reading in the Bible, you need to understand the context to which it was written. Further, one needs to understand and look through eyes of the "time" and not through our current times of wants and "needs" in the western world. We also use two other commentaries so our evening Bible study has turned in to a good hour every night. What a way to end a day after the job shifts have ended, the kids have gone to bed, the dishes and laundry are done and you can spend an evening in prayer, reading and steeping in the Word with your best friend!

If your looking for a conservative commentary you won't be disappointed! One of my reservations before purchasing was the use of the NIV version (I prefer the KJV). This really didn't make any difference because their comments were taken from the original language. Another reservation I had was if I would learn anything new (I have dozens of commentaries). I found insights that had never been raised before in the collection I own. For instance, in Revelation 16 Satan and the false prophet unite in inciting the nations of the world to gather for a final world war against Jerusalem and Israel (Satans base of operations). Why then should satanic forces be let loose to destroy the world empire which has just been created?

Actually the war is a form of rebellion against the world ruler. Satan, knowing the second coming of Christ is near, will gather all the military might of the world into the Holy Land to resist the coming of Jesus. Though the nations may be deceived in entering into the war in hopes of destroying the antichrist and his oppresive rule, as Christ returns they will turn their guns on Him instead.

It's this type of insight that makes this commentary priceless. Consider what you're getting. These men have spent their lives studying and teaching God's Word, they compile all that knowledge into these two books and it's all yours for 30 bucks! It really is a 'must have'. I need it, I use it, and I highly recommend it!

This commentary is awesome! Written by the professors from Dallas Theology Seminary, several different authors. features: maps, charts, great theology such as salvation by grace through faith, pre-tribulation rapture, 1000 year reign of Christ. concise commentary with hebrew and greek words, usually meaty but at times real concise. I place this set up there with Matthew Henrey and Weirsbe; and have used it to make sunday school lessons quite often for my collage level class. based on the niv, i am a KJV person but this generally dont pose an issue.

I already was familiar with this commentary series so I knew it was good. I appreciate how they go through the Bible verse by verse, break down difficult words and passages, and while they give several views on difficult passages, they also state the one that they feel is the best option and has the most Scriptural support. The historical and cultural background discussions really help me understand what I am reading better. Overall I feel this commentary series more than others I have read is clear and accurate and is helping me to have a deeper understanding of the Bible ...and that of course is a wonderful thing.
