ThankfulLaguna Hills, CAAge: 55-65Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5A Gift to Bible ReadersMay 18, 2016ThankfulLaguna Hills, CAAge: 55-65Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Keener is always a voice worth hearing. He seems to get better with each new book. This one should be in the hands of everyone who seeks to make the transition from reader to student. This volume will add depth and context to every passage of the NT, without become tedious and leaving the reader behind in an academic fog.
In a very real sense, the book is remarkable. It simply and effectively makes the NT more intelligible and gives the student a new vehicle for hearing the Word of God. Highly recommended. -
Kaj5 Stars Out Of 5Pastor's FriendJanuary 23, 2015KajQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I listened to Keener on a podcast discussing End Times and loved what I heard. Along with the recommendation of Dr. Michael Brown I went on your site and ordered the commentary. It is as if it is wirtten for a pastor that loves the Word and takes very seriously the instruction of the saints and the leading of the Spirit.

NeilSafford, AZAge: 55-65Gender: Male5 Stars Out Of 5Best ready reference for Bible background informationJune 18, 2016NeilSafford, AZAge: 55-65Gender: MaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This commentary presents background information as it applies to specific Scripture passages; so a person who is reading the Bible can have the commentary open to the same citation and read any background information that applies to the passage he/she is reading. Other Bible backgrounds resources tend to organize the same information encyclopedia style rather than Bible-order style. A Bible student may miss out on some available background information if he/she is using one of the other available resources. The student may not think to look up a particular topic by its name simply because he/she does not know there is such a topic relating to the Bible passage before him/her.
The IVP Bible Background Commentary is a ready reference. The Bible student is alerted to background information simply because it is there in writing right there at the matching citation in the commentary. -
lifeapplicationloverTennesseeAge: 18-24Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Needed for your studiesNovember 23, 2019lifeapplicationloverTennesseeAge: 18-24Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Just found Craig Keener a couple of months ago on youtube. He is really studied in greek and seems to keep everything facts based. If there is a discrepancy in a word or theology, he gives all sides and leaves it for you to decide (which sometimes is annoying but it is best since you dont need to be trusting man anyway). But if there is a meaning of a word or phrase that ppl interpret wrongly then he lets you know based on facts. Just reading the Bible is good but better understood when you are able to be put in their time and troubles. It makes a difference in knowing the background and how they were thinking and living day to day physically and spiritually. A lot of times we read the Bible thru America's lenses which allows us to make mistakes in what the Word of God is teaching us. So having this book to read along with the Word helps dig deeper into why certain passages were written the way they were or correcting a certain mentality we have as American's that they would have never had back then.

Arnoldd'iberville, MississippiAge: 55-65Gender: Male5 Stars Out Of 5an indispensable resourceMay 23, 2023Arnoldd'iberville, MississippiAge: 55-65Gender: MaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5this commentary is really very useful and helpful in my studies and also for just reading about the New Testament and how they lived. It's nice when you read the bible and you can see how they lived and where they lived. You can put the name in the Bible and connect it to where it is and how they live.
To me, it gives you more than what you might think it is or how it looks you get to see it on a map or in pictures.
I always had the faith and now I can see it.
