I have loved this book in our homeschool. A previous reviewer did not think the format appropriate for homeschool, but I disagree. While it's true the book is designed to be used by a classroom teacher for copying, it can be a single use book for homeschool if you want your child to fill out each page. But better yet, I tear out each page and insert it in a clear plastic binder sleeve and we write on it with wipe off white board markers. The pages are left clean for repeat practice or to sell the book when done. It works beautifully.

As far as content goes, this book is a pick-up-and-use ready format for great geography basics. The first section is on map skills. We quickly transitioned from the concepts on the workbook pages to having my child do the work on real maps. Concepts like reading a compass, map key, map scale, map grid, etc. are real world skills and my first grader is very capable with a real map now. There is a section on continents and oceans, which was a breeze for us since we've had maps on the wall for years and have already discussed these things with our kiddos. The third section is on landforms and water bodies. This is an easy to learn section to expand your child's geo-vocabulary. You can easily make an art book as a notebook to go along with these pages by having your child draw and color each landform/water body. You can also check out books at the library to study each feature more in depth. Finally, the trade book Geography A-Z goes along nicely with this section.

A previous reviewer mentioned a reference to evolution. We haven't come across this yet in our use of the book. For us, that is not a reason to run scared or toss aside a book with quality information about God's World. We've read many science books that already talk about evolution and we have no problem discussing the difference between our belief that God created the world with unique species that did not morph into other life forms, and that others believe differently.

It's a very easy book to use and has helped form a solid basis for map skills, land formations/water bodies, continents/oceans in our home. We are now ready to take on advanced geography and our child is fully functional in reading a real map, city/state/national.

Love this little book. My 6 year would do it everyday if I let her, however, we usually work in the book about 3 times a week. My daughter has also learned quite a bit from the book and is quite able to work independently in it

this is not a work book but a bound book intended to be copied. you can't do many of the assignments without copying because you need to cut out parts of one side of a page and glue it to the back of the same page. also there are refrences to evolution :(
