This is a great introduction to Christian prayer.

The book is written by the Kendrick brothers and is inspired by their recently released movie, War Room. They know the power of prayer, having grown up in a praying family and attending a praying church. They've seen God answer countless specific prayers over the years.

They want their readers to learn to pray more biblically and strategically. They give a foundation of Scripture and then explore prayer's benefits, purposes, and how God answers prayer. They remind us we need to prepare our hearts to boldly approach the throne of God in faith. They have great stories of prayer from the Bible and from Christians throughout history. They write about components of prayer and attitudes and habits that make prayer ineffective and those that make prayer effective. They also emphasize that salvation is necessary for true communication with God. The second half of the book contains good general teaching on the Christian life related to prayer, such as the condition of the heart, the will of God, the names of God, and other topics that are important to understanding prayer.

The authors suggest readers commit to reading one chapter of this book a day. Doing that makes it a great devotional. The writing is down to earth. I really liked that. There is no super spiritual attitude or academic flavor to the book. I felt like the authors were across the kitchen table talking to me.

I think the chapter I appreciated the most was the one on praying for other Christians. I so often say that I'll pray for someone and then really not know how to pray. They've included a sample prayer that is great. And then there are the fifteen suggestions in an Appendix.

This is a good book for all Christians. New Christians will find a comprehensive explanation of prayer. Seasoned Christians may not find anything shockingly new (we've read about ACTS before) but will again be reminded of the necessity of prayer and its power. They'll also read the stimulating chapters on praying for their family, those in ministry and their church.

The authors have included a prayer at the end of each chapter. They have also included a number of Appendixes. I really like the ones that have suggestions for specific prayer based on Bible verses. They have also included discussion questions for each of the 35 chapters.

The authors are tired of disinterested churches making little impact on their communities. They're tired of lifeless Christians consumed by their own pursuits. They want to see revival and prayer is the key.

I received a complimentary copy of this book through Icon Media for the purpose of an independent and honest review.

Have you seen the movie War Room?

I admit that I have not, but have seen the trailer for it. I must admit that I am not a person who goes to the theater to watch a movie. I usually wait until it comes out on dvd and then I purchase it.

This is a study guide designed to help you on your journey of learning how to pray more biblical and strategically. To help in using this book as a study guide here are suggestions on how to use it:

-read a chapter a day at least 5 days a week for the next seven weeks

-read the Bible each day (the suggestion is the Gospel of Luke so you can learn from Jesus about prayer)

-pray everyday. Prayer time should be both scheduled and spontaneous

There is a battle plan page where you can list you scheduled time and place for prayer and then prayer targets that helps you develop a specific, personalized and ongoing prayer list. (very helpful)

The book is broken up into seven focus areas:

    Enlistment

    Basic Training

    Conditioning

    Strategies

    Targets

    Ammunition

    Reinforcements.

Each focus area is further explained in the chapters they contain. For instance, the first chapter (under Enlistment) is the Legacy of Prayer.

In this chapter we learn that there's not an issue we're facing that prayer can not address because nothing is too difficult or impossible for God to handle. It also explains that the greatest and most spiritually successful men and women of the Bible were always people of prayer. Examples given were Abraham, Issac, Jacob, Moses, David, Daniel and Jesus. We are reminded that no church program, religious event, political effort, or humanitarian cause can trump the awesome power of what God can do in response to the prayers of His people. Then the chapter ends with a prayers.

This is a wonderful study for either a small group or an individual. It's set up in an easy to follow format. The verbiage is both easy to read and understandable. Each area is backed up by biblical scriptures that you can reference to. The section of Ammunition offers an array of references such as: Rhythms of Prayer, Spiritual Temperature Test, The Gospel, Prayer Strategy Verses, Spiritual Ammo, The Names of God, and Starting a Prayer Ministry. This area alone you could spend several hours if not days delving into the scripture. The last section is Reinforcements which consists of discussion questions.

This is a book that when you finish will be placed close by for easy reference. Would I recommend it to anyone? Definitely. I can't think of anyone who would not benefit from this book whether you are new to Christianity or faithful believer.

*I received this book free from the Publisher through their book bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

I can ask God my Father for my desires and Ive learned to wait with obiedience for Him that is faithfull. Trust in God and let him do his work in you and live!

I am not capable of expressing how this book has impacted my life in such a short period of time. I was raised in the church, but I wasn't taught how to "pray"...at least not like this. I have started to transform my life- a decent life by all accounts, but now a better one. I feel lighter and more patient. Thank you for this book! I have recommended this book to several people already! One person excitedly sent a text to tell me theirs was arriving today! It will be given as birthday gifts as well.

Love the beginning story about the authors family. Show how important family is.

This book is easy reading and excellent hands on teaching. Scriptures used throughout the book backs up the teaching 100%.

I highly recommend this book to all who want to fully understand the importance of prayer and developing their prayer life from 30%, 60% to 100% fold.
