Are you a people pleaser? Do you find yourself doing things because you think it will help others like you? You might have what Meyer calls "approval addiction." You may have lost your unique, God-given sense of identity, resulting in feelings of rejection and low self-esteem.

The good news is that you don't have to continue to try to find worth, validation, or value in other people's approval. There is a cure for approval addiction. You can be secure in unconditional love and acceptance of Jesus Christ and free to be who God created you to be.

Meyer deals with understanding fear, the root of an unbalanced need for approval. She explains trusting God's Word more than feelings, the importance of the mind, your righteousness in Christ and its outworking in your life. She helps you get past your past and to like yourself. She encourages transparency, establishing boundaries, overcoming emotional pain, and disciplining the mind.

She helps you identify the motives behind your pleasing behavior as well as evaluate your legitimate needs and desires. She writes about exercising your authority and asking for help. She explains how other people's happiness is not your responsibility. She has ideas for successfully overcoming rejection and how to deal with control and manipulation.

Meyer closes her book with encouragement for the future, of being a blessing to others. She does note that healing is a process that takes time.

This is another practical book from Meyer based on biblical principles. She is very clear in outlining the steps that need to be taken to be free from approval addiction. Her book is not an instant cure, however. You still need to take the steps she suggests. And like she notes, that will take time and effort on your part.

Food for thought: True freedom never comes until we fully realize that we don't need to struggle to get from others what God freely gives us: love, acceptance, approval, security, worth, and value."

I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher for the purpose of an independent and honest review.

I already love Joyce Meyer and this book confirms why. She asks specific questions for you to determine if you are a people pleaser and then explains how to overcome this. Finding a balance between following God and trying to be good to people can sometimes be confusing when you are addicted to approval. i appreciate Joyce sharing her insight from a biblical point of view. It has brought great clarity to me.

I have just finished reading this book and loved it. This book reveals some types of approval addiction that I was not aware of. I highly recommend everyone to read it even though you may think that you are not a people-pleasing person. This book gives also practical advice founded on the Word of God on how to deal with approval addiction and live the life that Jesus wants us all to have.
