My husband and I haven't been able to have kids so far, and so, though it has been something we have desired and prayed about for the last five years of our marriage, we don't fully know God's purposes in this area of our lives...in the role of parents. But I do know one thing, God has spoken to us through Eric & Leslie Ludys life so powerfully in so many areas...and parenting is no exception. We have been so touched and encouraged by their heart and obedience to the cry of the orphan and it has deeply impacted our lives. Stronger still is that we have had the privilege of witnessing the Ludys life and can see the fruit of their obedience in their children, marriage, family, and home.

In the past I have been afraid of the busy poured-out life that being a parent would require of me. Though I esteemed motherhood, it became harder to imagine as each year passed and no children were given. I became more content in my unfettered life and could not imagine what being a mother might entail and what it might mean for my personal freedom. Though it excited me, I was not ready to give up my rights and serve Jesus in this area. And now, I have a whole different perspective. Leslies book and all that it exhorts has spurred me on and opened my heart to whatever God would do through my husband and I as parents in the future. How would he use us to be arms of rescue and love? How might he use our home as a platform to minister, build-up, and point precious children to Jesus? Oh how Leslies book gave me great joy and taught me that the calling of a mother is a life of discipleship, unto Jesus and for our children. It is my favorite of Leslies books to date and I'm going to hold on to it and read it for years to come. I am prayerful that there will be opportunity to walk it out in life as I do in my heart. Through Leslies practical insights and Biblical encouragement and wisdom, I have developed new delight in an area where I thought my heart was as barren as my womb. But God has done a great work in my heart through this book. I highly recommend it to any woman, mother or not!

As a homeschooling mother of five, the "tyranny of the urgent" is a constant ploy of Satan to distract me from the number one priority in "training up my children in the way they should go" and that is, attending to my own personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Leslie's new book is a great reminder of the vital necessity to keep "first things first"...Matthew 6:33. The following quote encapsulates her main message: "We must always remember that being a good mother down not mean being perfect; it means becoming dependent upon the only One who is. Whenever I lean fully and completely on Jesus Christ, He faithfully points me to His perfect pattern for motherhood, one situation at a time....set-apart mothering is about humbly applying God's truth to every challenge we face as mothers...our job is to surrender to God without reserve and trust Him with every detail of this heavenly calling." Indeed, I've been reminded that "apart from Christ, I can do nothing" and that "in Him, are found all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge" and that includes EVERYTHING I NEED to disciple my children to be followers of Jesus.

Encouraged in my high calling as a mother,

    Nancy

I found Set- Apart Motherhood to be refreshing and encouraging with a good dose of conviction. Set-Apart Motherhood provides a no fluff, biblical view of motherhood and the great privilege it is to be a steward of HIS children. The author allows glimpses into her own life providing funny, okay it's not just me-moments and practical steps. I really like the ability to dive deeper at the end of each chapter in bringing you back to the Word of God and searching it out for yourself. Chapter 10 on Tensile Strength brought such a healthy way of looking at those long nights, or "inconveniences" that may come up with having a 2 year old and 9month as a training for me in what God may be calling my husband and I to. I would definitely recommend this book as well as buy it for any mom at any stage but especially for an expecting mom; so, she won't have to say "I wish I would have known that!"

It's a small book that packs a healthy punch that you will be able to read quickly as well as continue to refer back to and glean.

I have only made it through the first four chapters and have already gleaned so much from this book. My husband and I are expecting our first child in December. Reading this book and sharing what I learn in each chapter with my husband has really been helping us prepare our hearts and minds for parenting! I already bought a second copy to give to a friend who's due next month!

What God has done in me through this book is hard to put into words. He has used this book to stir and convict my soul in the sweetest way. In reading Leslie's description of motherhood (as God intended it to be) I realized that I was not honoring God in certain areas of my life. I was not living in such a way that showed Jesus that I truly cherished Him and desired to do all that I do as unto Him. What made this book unique was how Leslie addressed practical ways in which we as Christians can be honoring Jesus. For me, the most convicting was my daily routine. I did not have so much as a goal for a daily routine before reading this book because I never realized that having a routine would enrich my relationship with Jesus. I thought that I would just fit in time with Jesus whenever I happened to have it, whether throughout the day, late at night, or in the morning if possible. It didn't matter much to me when it happened as long as it happened eventually. I found that there are areas of my life in which I lack discipline, organization, and consistency. Although the book was intended for mothers, I personally felt that it was most instructive to my soul as I viewed myself as the child needing guidance and direction, and God as the Father willing to teach me such things. It really gave me perspective on the needs of my own soul and how our heavenly Father desires to fill those needs with Himself and grow us up into maturity. I see now that I must first learn to mother my own soul before I can mother the souls of others.

Oh what a Jesus we serve!
