I couldn't put this book down. It was fascinating! I felt like I was on the voyage with Anna.....I enjoyed it so much that I mailed it to my friend in TN to read. Can't wait to see #2.

I appreciate also that the author did her research on this subject. My ancestors came from over from Ireland, scotland and England to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. I can only imagine the hardships they went through as well as celebrations and joy.

Loved this book and the cover! Based on several true facts, a Christian Historical Romance set in 1737 on the ship Charming Nancy. Some of my ancestors sailed over from Germany in 1905, so I had a strong interest in this book, but my family came over on a passenger ship - a much different experience than in this story.

Anna's minister insists that she go with the Amish group from her village that is traveling from Ixheim, Germany to America, because she knows English and can translate for everyone. She doesn't want to leave her Grandparents, but will do as she's asked, digging up her rose to take with her. In addition it is beneficial to escape the reach of the nearby Baron who wants to destroy a family in their community, which affects them all. Anna is a very caring person with a strong faith.

Bairn is a young man who has been on a ship with the beloved Captain and his brother, also a Captain, since he was a young boy. Very ambitious, he's on the right track for promotion and earning great wealth - important goals for him. Then they transport this group of German Amish and Mennonite passengers to America and he's forced to face some difficult things, including his tragic past and lack of faith.

What detail! I'm not sure how Suzanne knew what it was like to be on a ship back then, but it is a very real and intricate account of life during this voyage. Richly told, the story is intricately woven; an amazing story of courage, salvation and love for others that's hard to put down.

Anna's Crossing by Suzanne Woods Fisher, 2015

~* An Amish Beginnings Novel *~

"...a historical fiction tale based on the true story of the Charming Nancy, the ship that brought some of the original Amish to America in 1738an eventful, tragic ocean crossing journey of 83 days. Its referred to as the Amish Mayflower."

    --author Suzanne Woods Fisher

Coming to America was a slow and uncertain journey in the 1700s. Tent cities are not new. Long transport before arriving at their ship destination, and then taxation of the Charming Nancy merchant vessel along the way slowed the beginnings. Stopping for provisions and ship repairs at Plymouth Sound, England, became a first week-long port stop before the crossing of the Atlantic Ocean. The lower deck held more than grains and other cargo goods ~ down below the hatch in the dark, dank, smelly underside traveled the "Peculiars," as the Amish of Swiss origin traveling from Germany were known on dock and by ship crew. Lack of sunshine and less than bearable conditions, brought disease amid the constant rocking motion to overcrowded fare-paying passengers, alive upon arrival, or dead at sea. All of this to be able to "own" land to pass on to generations. Scouting travelers ahead were awaiting the arrival of those they were preparing for to join them in Penn's Woods in the New World.

A day-by-day diary takes us along their path aboard ship, awaiting fair wind to continue their journey. A narrative we would not know so closely without this research by author gleanings. Anna's Crossing sorts out superstition and self-guiding to a gentle, firm belief in God that is everlasting; a love that is never failing.

***Thank you to Revell Fiction for inviting me to be a part of the Blog Tour for Suzanne Woods Fisher's Anna's Crossing, and sending me a copy of this historical fiction of the story of the first Amish who crossed the Atlantic in 1737 on the Charming Nancy ship. Annas Crossing by Suzanne Woods Fisher is a beautiful masterpiece. It is filled with rich and fascinating Amish history. The extensive research conducted by the author is evident throughout the entire story.

Anna Konig is hesitant to join fellow believers in her Amish faith as they set sail from Germany to the American Colonies in 1737. The bishop of their church is already across in the New World waiting for them. While on the ship, Anna makes a connection with Bairn, the ships carpenter. They both realize their friendship is highly discouraged, yet Anna continues to be drawn to Bairn. Can they avoid the stares and objections of others throughout this perilous journey across the Atlantic Ocean? Will Bairn share this past with Anna even though it might completely change his future?

Suzanne Woods Fisher really brings the characters to life in this book! She does a great job relating them to circumstances that every one can relate to including guilt, anger, loneliness, compassion, empathy, faith, happiness and love. I highly recommend checking this book out! It is one you will want to reread over and over again!
