I am enthralled by Batterson's creative use of language. His writing ability intrigues me; it has to be a gift straight from God. I was as anxious to finish this book as any novel. However, the skillful composition is secondary to the challenge he presents us: "it's time to quit expecting Jesus to follow you and make the decision to follow Him". It motivated me to get on my knees. I am so glad C. Billingsley recommended it on Facebook. I am recommending the book to all my friends and to our Sunday School class for a 4-session study.
For the month of January, the church I go to has been using this book as our series for the new year. We go over the pastor's sermon and use of this book in our connect groups, and the results have been life changing. We recognize our faults, we understand the sacrifices needed in order to become All In for God so that we can be All Out for God! I really recommend this book for everyone. It really puts life into perspective.
This is a excellent book that is well written. Its format is an easy read for those who don't usually read books (me) and I'm certain a quick read for those who love to read books. You pick up snapshots of history that are then correlated to a story in scripture with real time applications for every situation in life! Amazing! Can't wait to read again! Burn The Ships!
Mark Batterson in his new book, "All In" published by Zondervan tells us You Are One Decision Away From a Totally Different Life.
From the back cover: The Gospel costs nothing, but it demands everything. It's all or nothing.
If Jesus is not Lord of all, then He is not Lord at all.
Many people believe they are following Jesus but they have mistakenly invited Jesus to follow them. Mark Batterson calls it the inverted gospel. He challenges you to go all in and all out by fully surrendering your life to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. That is when the true adventure begins.
Suppose you got on a train going Southbound then realized you were supposed to be on the Northbound train. Wouldn't you completely vacate the Southbound train to get a seat on the correct Northbound train? Of course you would. It would be impossible to leave apart of you going South while the rest of you went North. That is exactly the point that Mark Batterson is trying to make. He believe that we have mistakenly asked Jesus to follow us instead of doing what Jesus told us which is to follow Him. In five sections, seventeen chapters Pastor Batterson explores how we need to get realigned with the Word of God. Once we vacate our old ways of thinking and acting then we need to be all in on the new ways without carrying over some of the polluted thoughts and actions we currently have. Pastor Batterson challenges us to stretch ourselves using the Word of God and convinces us to get off the bench and in the game. I think that everyone should have a copy of this book and give it as a gift to friends and family so that they can be properly aligned as well. Everyone will be better off for it.
Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from Zondervan. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. Once again Mark Batterson has hit it out of the park! Through the book the Holy Spirit has spoken to my heart about my having a plan B backup to have my way instead of trusting The Lord for things to go as He plans. I thought I was a follower, but in reality I want God to follow me. Total surrender keeps coming up time and time again. Now I have to trust God that he will show me how to totally surrender and not fight for control.
