Captured on the High Seas is the 14th book in The Imagination Station series. It is part of a group of them that have an overarching story line that revolves around the time of the revolutionary war. This sub series starts with book 13 and will continue on in this and at least the next book which hasn't come out yet (as of the time of this post). Beth and Patrick end up being shot at as they are leaving in the Imagination Station in book thirteen. The musket ball causes their trip to take them to a revolutionary warship instead of back to Whit's End. The learn what live is like for the sailors and end up being taken as prisoners of war.

This book series is a fabulous substitute for the hugely popular Magic Treehouse books. If you are looking for something that can help your kids learn about history but from a Biblical perspective and without the magic this is the series for you. My 9 year old loves them but they are more at a 1st-2nd grade reading level. I highly recommend getting this whole series for your children.

These books are written with good lessons for kids. They have danger and thrills, and frightening scenes, in addition to the moral lessons. This might inspire some kids but scare others. Mostly, if the reader understands the risky scenarios, they are just fun to read and find out how the two adventurers make their narrow escapes. They are fiction, but the stories can send readers to other resources to find out more about the history. This story includes ships in battle with cannons. The vermin ridden ships and the nasty food (creepy!) are realistically described. Kids will enjoy the thrilling action.

Captured on the High Seas is another great time travel adventure with cousins Patrick and Beth. I loved how the authors are able to tell young readers about historical events. This time they travel back to the Revolutionary War era.

This is the second Imagination Station book I have read from this series and I am hooked. I want to get them all for my kids (and myself).

    5 stars.

The Imagination Station adventures are great stories to get kids interested in history. This is the third one I've read aloud to my kids. They are great read aloud books with action and dialog. They are quick reads and take about an hour to read aloud. We enjoy talking about the history of the story after reading it. There is a page in the back with three facts about the true story behind the book.
