Journey along with American settlers who learn that despite where the trail takes them or how primitive their lodgings may be Christmas is all about the heart. Determined to honor Christ’s birth, these pioneers find a way to make Christmas happen in places like a cave, a tipi, and a dugout. Modern readers will enjoy a peek into life before commercialism took over the sacred day, distracting us from the true blessings of faith, hope, and love. Enjoy nine original novellas of Christmas romance as penned from many of today’s leading Christian authors, including Lauraine Snelling, Kathleen Fuller, and Vickie McDonough.
Bestselling author Vickie McDonough grew up wanting to marry a rancher, but instead, she married a computer geek who is scared of horses. She now lives out her dreams in her fictional stories about ranchers, cowboys, lawmen, and others living in the West during the 1800s. Vickie is the award-winning author of over thirty published books and novellas. Her books include the fun and feisty Texas Boardinghouse Brides series and End of the Trail, which was the OWFI 2013 Best Fiction Novel winner. Whispers on the Prairie was a Romantic Times Recommended Inspirational Book for July 2013, and A Pioneer Christmas Collection was on the CBA Bestseller's list for two months. Vickie is a wife of thirty-eight years, mother of four grown sons and one daughter-in-law, and grandma to a feisty eight-year-old girl. When she's not writing, Vickie enjoys reading, antiquing, watching movies, and traveling. Lauraine Snelling is an award-winning author with over 75 published titles including two horse series for kids. With more than 3 million books in print, Lauraine still finds time to create great stories as she travels around the country to meet readers with her husband and rescued Basset Sir Winston.
Marcia Gruver’s southern roots lend touches of humor and threads of faith to her writing. Look for both in her Texas Fortunes and Backwoods Brides series. When she’s not perched behind a keyboard, you’ll find her clutching a game system controller or riding shotgun on long drives in the Texas Hill Country. Lifelong Texans, Marcia and her husband Lee have five children. Collectively, this motley crew has graced them with a dozen grandchildren and one great-granddaughter—so far.
Cynthia Hickey grew up in a family of story tellers and moved around the country a lot as an army brat. Her desire is to write real, but flawed characters in a wholesome way that her seven children and five grandchildren can all be proud of. She and her husband live in Arizona where Cynthia works as a monitor in an elementary school.
Navy wife Michelle Ule is a writer, genealogist, and Bible study leader. She graduated from UCLA with a degree in English Literature and married a submarine officer whom she followed all over the world with their four children. Michelle lives in northern California with her family.
A book full of quick, easy to read, encouraging stories that will help put you in the Christmas spirit. Each author brings a story that will capture you from the first page to the last.
I love these collections because they are not meant to be in depth or full of thought provoking content. They are meant to bring warmth, hope, love and faith by way of short stories. Yes, they can be very predictable at times but that is part of the charm of each collection.

A Pioneer Christmas Collection was such a good read! Each story is short enough that it can be read in an hour or so, but they are short but Awesome!! I especially enjoyed these because the setting of each is during the pioneer days and I love that era in history. Listed below are the nine stories, the author who wrote each one, and the historical time and place of the setting. If you only purchase one fiction to read during the Christmas Season, this is the one you need to choose! These stories are so neat because during the busy season, its comforting to sit down take a break and read all or half of one story at a time. And if you read the beginning of my blog, you saw that Barbour Books had this amazing book for only $1.97. But hurry, it may end soon!
And today I am mainly focusing on A Pony Express Christmas by Margaret Brownley, since Margaret so graciously provided a copy for me to read and review.
Ellie-Mae Newman was in search of her brother. He left home because of not getting along with their dad, but now that their dad was gone, Ellie-Mae wanted to find her twin. But at this time, she is sitting with a broken wagon with two stubborn mules to pull it with, that is if it was workable! Then she runs into a hanging about to happen, and offers money for the poor mans life. Thanking Ellie and walking away, Mr. Corbett thought he was free, but little did he know he had a price to pay.
Margaret Brownley makes every story she writes funny and fun to read. In the mist of the difficult situations Ellie-Mae and Mr. Corbett were in, she had be laughing most of the way through A Pony Express Christmas Collection. How these two kept going on their trail was anybody's guess, but they kept one. Ellie-Mae was one determined woman, and Mr. Corbett was a fugitive. But as they stopped at each Pony Express office on the trail, them seemed to run into a dead end, but Ellie-Mae just wouldn't give up. Wanna find out if they find this twin brother? The answer is in Ms. Brownley's story, A Pony Express Christmas. And you will find this story in A Pioneer Christmas Collection from Barbour Books HERE.

I really enjoyed this book, these stories, and they are all quick reads. Of course there were some that touched my heart more than others as I'm sure any reader would feel that way, having different stories touch their heart. They take place in a variety of locations and even though they aren't long, they are great reads. I think there will be something special for all Christian Historical Fiction lovers in this book. I have read books by many of these authors and have found some new ones that I will be watching for. Thank you for putting this collection together.

Tell us a little about yourself. I'm a Midwestern farm girl transplanted to the Lowcountry of South Carolina (20-some years now), homeschooling mother-of-many, military wife, history geek.
What was your motivation behind this project? I love the Revolutionary War era and find myself intrigued by its political and cultural currents. It's a natural setting for the emotional conflict inherent in good romance.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? A fresh appreciation, not only for the cost of liberty, but also the complexity of the time and its issues. A deeper understanding of God's grace. And of course, enjoyment of the give-and-take between Micah and Truth!
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? I have to admit that I went for a bit of a Louis L'Amour "Sacketts" vibe with this story, with a faith-based slant. I also love Stephen Bly, Deeanne Gist, Julie Klassen, Elizabeth Camden, and too many other authors to name.
