This novel is, in a nutshell, absolutely perfect. Becky Wade did a phenomenal job of crafting a story that truly and fully put the goodness of God at the very center of every theme, and not in a way that was superficial or forced. PTSD is not an easy disorder to discuss, much less write an entire book about, but Ms. Wade blew me away with her accurate details about the condition and the hope that can exist for those who struggle with it. And I absolutely loved each and every one of the characters: their flaws, their optimism, their banter, their joys, their sorrows, and their relationships, both with each other and with God. I completely adored the spunky, moody, and thoughtful characters, each one so unique and yet so able to effortlessly interact with one another. Lyndies bright outlook on life despite her past trials and Jakes brokenness create a masterful relationship that is interesting, unique, emotional, and genuinely true. The real feelings and real struggles were relatable and enjoyable. I became part of the characters lives and by the end, I wished I could simply call them up and go out for dinner together. The book contains so many deep spiritual themes that can be applied to my own life despite very different circumstances. With charming and engaging dialogue and incredibly deep character developments, this book flows impeccably from beginning to end. I truly cannot recommend this novel enough. It deserves even more than five stars!

I received a copy of this book from Bethany House Publishers in exchange for an honest review.

Nightmares, anxiety, involuntary reactions to simple noises. These are all part of Jake Porter's life after returning home from the Marines. His Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) keeps him isolated from others, including his family. His life was different many years before, when he felt whole and loved his best friend, Lyndie James. When Lyndie suddenly moves back to Holley, Texas, Jake is unprepared for the bond that still exists from their childhood friendship. Against his own desires, he hires Lyndie to exercise his Thoroughbred horses and asks her to work with Silver Leaf, a beautiful and potentially amazing horse that won't race. As Lyndie and Jake work together, she brings light into his otherwise dark life. Jake resists the momentum of their relationship as he is plagued by the past. Will he ever be whole enough to love Lyndie? Read more in A Love Like Ours by Becky Wade.

A Love Like Ours is Becky Wade's third book featuring the Porter brothers of Holley, Texas and it is my favorite. It works fine as a stand-alone story, but Undeniably Yours and Meant to Be Mine are good as well, so I recommend reading them before A Love Like Ours.

Wade's writing style is good as usual. At no point did the plot drag or rush. Jake and Lyndie are well-developed characters with flaws and strengths that make them authentic, but still remarkable. However, the story is what really enchanted me with this book. I felt like cheering as Lyndie took Silver Leaf out to attempt his first run. Lastly, I appreciated the compassion with which the author treated Jake's PTSD. As someone who's been there, I felt Wade did an excellent job in dealing with the issue without making it too tidy, too easily fixed.

I recommend A Love Like Ours by Becky Wade to fans of clean, Christian romances. It's a keeper for me as I have no doubt I'll read this series again in the future.

This story now takes top billing in all of the stories that I have read by this author. I absolutely loved it. I really like the way this author takes tough issues and writes love stories with hope surrounding them. In this book, Jake struggles with PTSD and Lyndie has a sister with a disability. Both of them struggle with these issues but love gets them through. Full Review at my website.

After an IED explosion scars not only Jake Porter's face but also his soul after his comrades are killed, he withdraws from everyone around him when he returns home to recover. Choosing to pour himself into his work on Whispering Creek Ranch, Jake makes a name for himself as one of the best horse trainers in the country. When Lyndie James, Jake's best friend from childhood, returns to their hometown looking for work, she and Jake reconnect when he hires her to exercise his horses. Jake pairs her with Silver Leaf, a majestic thoroughbred that has resisted racing and that he hopes Lyndie can coax into running. As Lyndie and Jake's interactions increase at the horse farm, they both find that their connection is as strong as it was when they were children, and slowly but surely, Lyndie begins to break through to Jake's sullen heart. When Lyndie expresses that she wants more than friendship from him, at first Jake refuses her advances feeling that he is "broken" and not good enough for her. But with patience and gentle love, Lyndie finds that in actuality Jake's love for her runs deeper than the oceans.

This has by far been my favorite book in Wade's Porter Family series! Readers can't help but be drawn to Jake's dark and lonely heart as he struggles with his self-worth and his feelings for Lyndie. The fierceness at which he loves and protects her will take your breath away. In comparison, Lyndie's patience, consistency, and unwavering belief in Jake shows him that he is worthy and deserves to be loved. Jake and Lyndie's love story, to me, is a perfect example of 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 in action!
