Publisher's Description

A year’s worth of novellas from twelve inspirational romance authors. Happily ever after guaranteed.

Allie left the love of her life at the altar—to save him from a lifetime of heartbreak. When a Valentine’s Day wedding brings them back together, she struggles against her family’s destructive history. Can Allie ever realize that a marriage is so much more than a wedding dress?

History repeats itself when Allie Andrews escapes the church on her wedding day—in the same dress passed down for generations and worn by all the women in her family—women with a long history of failed marriages. Allie loves Marcus but fears she’s destined to repeat her family’s mistakes. She can’t bear to hurt Marcus worse.

Marcus Hall never stopped loving Allie and can only think of one reason she left him at the altar—him. When the two are thrown together for his sister’s Valentine’s Day wedding, he discovers the truth and realizes their story might be far from over. Can Allie shuck expectation and discover who she is as a bride and in the Bride of Christ? And if she ever walks down the aisle, what dress will she wear?

“I was delighted to hear that some of my own favorite authors would be writing the stories for the Year of Weddings collection, and when I saw the gorgeous book covers, I knew the series would be a huge hit! There's just something so hopeful and heartwarming about a wedding, and I'm thrilled to have A January Wedding be a part of this fun project!” —Deborah Raney, author of A January Bride

I rated this book after I finished reading it and now have come back to write a review for it. And I'm a little surprised I gave it four stars - it seems like a 3 star book for me as I reflect on it.

In hindsight, I'm annoyed by Allie's insecurity and Marcus' refusal to fight for her throughout the story. There is also back-story to Allie's emotional distress and St Amant did not fully develop it; if she had, then Allie might have been a much more likeable character from the beginning. Because in all honesty, I didn't care for her much and thought Marcus should move on.

However, I re-read the beginning and the ending; ah, the ending completely saved this book! Both Allie and Marcus decide to speak up for what they are feeling in their heart. This type of ending is so much nicer than just one of the characters deciding to take a chance. LOVED the ending.

I received an eARC copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. Here is my honest review.

Allie left the love of her life at the altar - to save him from a lifetime of heartbreak. In the same dress passed down for generations and worn by all the women in her family - women with a long history of failed marriages, Allie dared not repeat the same mistakes with Marcus. When a Valentine's Day wedding brings them back together, she struggles against her family's destructive history.

Would you get married on February 14, Valentine's Day? I don't think I would, it would seem kind of lovesick, at least for me. Although, I had hoped to get married on our boyfriend-girlfriend anniversary, but it didn't happen. He he! Well, the author of A February Bride went all out and had another couple in the story wed on Valentine's Day.

Allie believed in generational curses and wanted to spare Marcus of what might happen in the future, that's why she became a runaway bride. If that's so, I wonder why she didn't distance herself from any man who came her way from the start, and had to wait until the last minute to bolt. Since she knew about it from the Bible, I do hope she had actively sought the answer to break this curse from the Bible as well. I guess that's why I didn't have much compassion for Allie's plight. The story was alright, might resound with some women who have negative family histories and experiences, yet about to commit to something that requires her 100 percent.

Note: I got A February Bride e-book to review compliments of BookLook Bloggers in exchange for honest opinions.

This was a fun read but it doesn't stick in my memory as much as the previous two books in the series do. It was easy to empathize with Allie but I also wanted to talk some sense into her. Fortunately her best friend, Hannah, and Hannah's mom are there.

Though in a neat twist it is Hannah's brother that Allie loves and has dumped. Which of course means that it is her once future mother-in-law that is showing love and sharing good advice. I enjoyed this novella and look forward to reading some of Betsy St. Amant's other books.

Disclosure: I received this book for free from the publisher via NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission.

Reading this book was a heart-warming experience. I love this story. It's both real and surreal. The characters I liked the most were Hannah and Julie - two people who I think know what understanding and forgiveness are. I love Marcus and his abiding love for Allie. I would love to meet a man like him in real life.

There is so much emotion in the story. Feelings of excitement and disappointment, laughter and melancholy, and confusion and clarity were in the pages, but through it all, I was feeling giddy. I enjoyed the kitchen scene the most.

I liked how the author, Betsy St. Amant, portrayed real life struggles and fears and the great determination it takes to overcome them. These struggles may include the fear of history repeating itself, believing the lies in your mind and the struggle of having the courage to own up your mistakes and bad decisions. It was also surprising who helped Allie overcome her struggles the most and dissolved all the lies. Help comes in unexpected ways.

However, I would have liked to have a different scenario in the ending instead of having it "double". If you would like to know what I mean, grab a copy of the book.

It's a charming story of forgiveness, transformation, redemption and love. Of the four books, so far, in the series of A Year of Weddings Novellas, this is my favourite.

Review: Loved this story!! It was so easy to read and read quickly I did. I enjoyed and empathized with Allie, Marcus was great, and Hannah was a prize! It was a book you felt like you knew these people and went by so quickly, yet I was eager to see all things resolved. It was a book that looked to the marriage not so much the things leading up to the ceremony. Saying ‘I do' was the bridge to cross for their relationship to grow more. A refreshing look at being a couple, in a day where couples do not always identify themselves as one. I found it so refreshing that no one believed in happily ever after, but in building a relationship. These were so readily pressed into the pages of this story.

I would like to thank Net Galley and Zondervan Fiction for allowing me to read and review this book in return for a free copy and I was never asked to write a favorable review by anyone.
