Robert Widdowson5 Stars Out Of 5September 17, 2008Robert WiddowsonThomas Schreiner is a solid scholar. His reading of Scripture is sound and his commentary is clear and accessible. He doesn't overburden the reader with grand theories but goes to the heart of the matter with every verse. He thoughtfully interacts with other scholars as well as other traditions (Schreiner is reformed in his theology) thus bringing a balanced approach to the task of interpretation. He ably refutes the incorrect interpretations of others, but in a gracious, non-combative way. Nonetheless, you get the sense the issue has been laid to rest. Even if you disagree with Schreiner, the clearness and thoughtfulness of his commentary, I think, be worth reading.

AnthonyNew York, NYAge: 45-54Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5September 10, 2011AnthonyNew York, NYAge: 45-54Gender: maleEven though I am not a fan of the NIV, I bought this commentary simply because Thomas R. Schriener wrote it. He is a meticulous New Testament scholar, and this commentary is superb. It is a step up from Edmond Clowney's "The Message Of 1 Peter," and is a very good resource for seminary students, lay people, and ministers. The introductions preceding each book covered is a must read and should not be skipped over. If you are doing an exegetical study of 1 & 2 Peter and/or Jude, then get these two resources for your personal library. You won't regret that you did.

Padunkiaet5 Stars Out Of 5June 27, 2009PadunkiaetAn excellent commentary on 1,2 Peter and Jude. I had used this commentary for my preparation for our cell group for 1 Peter for several months last year. His writings on 2 Peter and Jude are superb (5 stars) are as good as or even better than that of Gene L Green (Jude and 2 Peter, Baker Exegetical Commentary on the New Testament) in theological and interpretation aspects, but are inferior to the detailed exegeses of Green"s. My rating for his writing on 1 Peter is of course 4.5 stars (when compared with that of 1 Peter by Edmond Hiebert). But overall, if you want only one moderately detailed bible commentary on 1,2 Peter and Jude, you should consider buying this very book.
